Yeah, it's called a "killer app" of course, and it's one of theirs. (certainly in this proclivity).

For $200 Logic gives a damn lot. for a fraction of cost of a lot of their competition.

I've used Logic since v2 or v3 days with my eMagic (serial, pre usb lol) dongles or whatever iirc...

It's not my main, but I guess it's been awhile since I've pulled up the sleeves.. but it's a fine one. And I certainly couldn't/wouldn't begrudge anyone for using it you know? And I think this new version is gonna get me giving it another roll in the hay without question.

And for all those saying things like "Apple is quite savvy; they charge you for new computers and eventually render older ones unsupported. They also cleverly hook you into their ecosystem. Logic Pro is Mac Only, and has no protection, because the end goal is to sell the computers to run it."

Up until a month or two ago, I used my 2009 MacPro 4,1 (converted to 5,1 and upgraded in various ways over the years etc). THAT is damn value. It wasn't until I had different reasons to get a new machine that I had to look into the newer options out there with Mac Silicon etc, ... and while certainly not unimpressed and blown away with what they can do, my old 2009 and 2012 5,1's are still there and working just fine...

I've got a 6 or 7 year old iPhone, and another one. And I've been riding the same old laptops way beyond what the haters want to say... and yeah, Apple bought Logic. Gee, that was ~20 years ago btw, and I don't know many who haven't gotten over that or are upset about the price of it or it's upgrades or what has been brought in with their purchase of other IP regarding it from Redmatica to everything else.

Sure, they are in the business to sell shit. ok. which business isn't genius? that's not 'savvy'. That's just how it works.

Google/Microsoft/whatever out there not in the business of either selling you shit or more nefariously making money OFF your personal shit?

So whatever, I'm not going down any os war nonsense bickering as is stale ass flat beer and for stupid children with playdates with their bff's of os and whatever they have been told.

I'm not a fanboi, I just use what I use, and haven't had a problem ,or need to get all passionate about false equivalencies at the end of the day..

And to add to it, I have NEVER had a problem with an Apple product where they didn't take care of it completely for the most part ever. A laptop EIGHT years out of AppleCare needs a new battery? No problem... let us toss in a new chassis, keyboard, trackpad, screen etc while we are at it.... having issues with what might be a problematic mobo with another product out of warranty? cool, we got you... and that's on us.. just please bear with us for 4 days while we ship it round trip Fedex on our dime....

You do get what you pay for. I've never regretted a dime spent perhaps outside of purchasing a 2004 MacBook Pro Motorola laptop a year before the intel switch...

Hell, those f'er's still replace damn AirPods that clearly I drove to the ground or whatnot... with close to no questions asked.

Apple dropped the protection on Logic over a decade ago when 9 came out and moved to the Apple Store and got rid of any licenses you needed aside from an Apple Store receipt. You must have missed out on the XSKey, the parallel port dongles, license codes, etc.. It still needs a receipt from the Apple Store/Apple ID to run it. Grab a copy of a friends Apple Store app and try to run it on your machine.

 

I'm running Logic 10.8.1. I got it from the sister site, is it not the same?

For people with older Macs, OpenCore-Patcher has been an awesome workaround and a life saver. Still working on my Late 2013 iMac, Quad-Core intel i7, 32gb/ram. Solid machine still.

I have been using Apple computers since 1987. I have been forced, at times, to use a PC at work or wherever. I'm not switching to PC unless my actual life depends on it. I am still not sure what DAW to use, but the new stem separation that's built in looks sweet. My Mac Mini, bought at Costco, was the best deal ever . . . got myself a nice 4k LG screen on sale and used the KB and Mouse from a previous iMac. I'm all set for cheap.

I was first using PC then I bought a Mac and it was disappointed bu some parts, after that I rebought a PC and the Windows experience was so disturbing that I installed macOS on it then the Hackitosh reached his EOL and apple released theit macMinis. Since then I am back on Apple Hardware and this time I love it. I am happy that they even offer affordable powerful machines.
