Personally, I have been waiting for more than 10 years for this moment, so I want to share this with you

 

You can only activate a demo of this to an iLok USB. Thanks, but no thanks. Cannot demo it, but it looks like it is probably junk anyway.

 

Nice! Been hoping for this for a bunch of years as well.

R.I.P. to Mr Hill, but I'm curious, was he so against this that they had to wait for him to pass away to actually do this, or does his passing mean the end of some contractual obligations which prevented expanding into vst/au etc?

PT guys evangelising over this plugin for as long as I can remember has been nothing short of insane.

I might have to get my old pt rig out of storage and finally try the K'd version of this.

 

You remember Crane Song H.E.D.D., Weiss DS1 or TC System 6000, when DSP algorithms in hardware could be sold for many thousands of dollars? Times have changed, but some companies still try to make money of 20 year old algos.

 

It is as bad as Serato Pitch N' Time for $799. I think it maybe is an old plugin revived from a garbage can, as suggested by comment. The tipoff to me would be that you cannot use an iLok method other than iLok USB. That would fit with it being old. And the buttons on the top of the plugin make it look like this thing was made by Voxengo.

You could buy so many other plugins that we call expensive which do the same things, and have money left over. Like Sonnox, UAD, McDSP, and others in that kind of price range for AAX versions.

They may be waiting another 10 years to sell a copy of it.

 

Let's see shootout/plugin doctor between this and various tape/saturation plugs

 

20 yrs old doesn't automatically mean "bad" - algos dont age like food in your fridge. For example i still use 20+ yrs old Waves L2 Limiter from time to time for subtle (1 to 1,5 dB max) limiting, becuz it adds that nice midrange-boost

That's the trick. The less difference you can hear, the better it is.

 

For those who understand Russian, the guy from TDR "deconstructed" that plugin and created a JSFX version to emulate it. It's quite simple.

I did a demo and it looks good, but I don't feel it's worth the $500. It's a very old plugin and there already seem to be many plugins with similar nuances.

 

When i came and saw the name "Crane Song Phoenix" and "VST3" i knew 100% it was iLok. But i expected the same price tag of UAD and Sonnox which are on the expensive side of things. But this is awful. And this plugin is totally useless crap next to u-he Satin, UAD Ampex or Cupwise and TP tapes on Nebula. And i really really doubt if it's any better than Softube's or Airwindows Tapes. Next.

I always saw this plugin on masterclasses, it's a famous one among the pros, but let's be honest: pros do their mixes mostly with plugins they know and have, not with the best coded or sounding ones. This one is an OG and of course a lot of OG's of early in the box mixing would use this tool. But it's 2024. You have a vast array of options to choose that are better coded and with more functionality that a 449$ tape saturator plugin. There's no single option on this plugin that cannot be replaced by anything else that we have today. This thing doesn't even have oversample. C'mon.
