Late Night With the Devil (2024)

as a big horror fan, this is the best horror film ive seen this year so far. the late night TV show aesthetic and concept is really clever and fresh for the genre as a whole. it makes you feel like youre watching the craziest moment in live television with the cinematography, it makes it feel like youre watching a late night show and its filmed with grainy analog tape. horror movies just dont scare me at this point, but if they make it hard for you to sleep or walk around at night; theres definitely some creepy scenes, that arent like cheap jump scares, or something creepy moving behind the character. though its not on the level of horrific where you want to turn it off or not look imo

CGI hasnt been the greatest technique for horror films, luckily this movie understands that and rarely uses it, so stuff looks less artificial, except when its suppose to be; but how they use it is very surreal and almost psychedelic, which works for the 70s time period. of course dark humor is in it, but its not a like a major part of the movie. it does have certain supernatural horror cliches, like the person who doesnt believe till its too late; or people willing to do anything for success; but its all done above average. acting in horror has always been underrated, here its pretty good but not the best ive seen. overall if you like dark shit, its a good time with this one

In Germany, the movie was released about a week ago. But only in a few selected premium cinemas and at stupid times. I saw the movie at 1.15 pm on my day off.

 

i look forward to seeing it when it releases here in USA... looks interesting...

I watched the Black and White version, Japanese with english subtitles..
very well done, I recommend watching the original black and white 1954 as well to understand the difference in stories.

well done film, looking forward to watching the color version with a dubbed soundtrack when its released..
But the Black and White was great and really a pretty well told story. One of my favorite Godzilla films.
When nothing but a big lizard will do, its Godzilla Movie Time at the Furbish Mansion...

Folk horror, Historical Drama​

being a big horror fan i watch stuff from any decade; but theres always something that will fly under your radar and this japanese horror classic is one for me. this movie is fantastic, its set in a time of war and extreme poverty, everybody in this movie is grimy and getting it how they live. its old, so the horror is on the same level as say Nosferatu, the genre as a whole has came a long way since this; though its very influential, i dont see any modern film fans finding this scary - but horror is about watching people in horrific situations and how they respond, here its done very well, the story is great. not super complex in its storytelling but effective and very human

the cinematography is great, horror movies are usually set in one environment (part of why theyre so cheap to make) and this is the same. i can see how this influenced other Japanese horror films with its great use of atmosphere, shots that are almost arthouse-y and ahead of other movies of its time ive seen; great angles and scenes, quality titties just out there. the acting is great and around three characters who are all entertaining. i really enjoyed this, one of the top old school horror movies ive seen - if you can get into older movies and dont mind reading subtitles, this definitely earned its classic status

The night is short, walk on girl. Japanese, dubbed into English. Interesting story and art work. sort of a cross between mid 50's animation styles and french animation styles. Artwork is interesting to watch and the story unfolds without weight as if a force of nature..

SISU is a favorite.
Watched Bastarden (aka The Promised Land) with Mads Mikkelsen yesterday. Great period drama. Mads never disappoints.
