usually there are trial versions, which you can try for free with limitations.

only Reason tries to hide behind a subscription for trialing.

back in 2021 it was possible to try 30 days for free. then they reduced it to 7days and now they want paypal access.

tbh for that i would simply just use the R2R version if on windows.

I dont see why subbing for a DAW helped?
back in the days i simply used FL Demo version for 6 months, meaning saving audio at the end of playing around with the only option, it was fine for me ...

this slightly turned into a discussion if subs are good or not!

Let me think about some criteria for a good sub:
    - speciality
    - easy to use
    - download portal?
    - variety
    - price vs value

i think you are confusing trials with subscriptions, they are two different things.

subscriptions are the opposite of demos/trials and come without any limitations, usually they come with the every paid expansions.

i dont know about reason's trial version but i'm assuming it wasn't with complete access to all their expansions like is their one dollar subscription. then if for some unknown reason one month isn't enough to finish my project i could decide to either to buy the daw or to keep the service for one month more, and change daws later.

I understand that pirating is a better alternative, but is also illegal and some people rather not do it

it would certainly help a lot of ableton producers make up their mind about the daw, if they could somehow legally try the suite version without buying it. but that's never been possible...

why so much hate about it? i'm not forcing you to subscribe to anything, not even saying you should, i'm just saying that if it's not the only alternative, it's nice to have an alternative.

yes it did! if you have more compelling arguments and would like to discuss it more maybe a new tread would be appropriate.

Read the one sentence you focus on again, and change "you" to "you or anyone else". It is second person point of view writing. It changes the entire meaning of the sentence, because much like your first off-topic post; your attempted change of meaning hinges solely on semantics. If you desire more grammatical assistance, I can review your original post more closely for you.

Do you really think anyone is going to read a comment on a forum, and say to themselves " I was going to pay for example: Cubase today, but some random person told me not to buy a legit license because I may have other extended demos on the same machine?"

Do you really think they will "Care", or will they simply ignore it? Your little off-topic condemnation of people who buy legit software is not going to impact anyone's decision making at all. How do you think you end up with "free" software? Someone actually has to buy it or you just end up with k'd demos which will expire. Yet you question someone's presence because they do not supply every single thing they purchase? Or do they have their wallet out and you are thinking about what else they can buy you, like a leech?

Google it even: With second-person point of view, the writer addresses the reader using the pronoun "you". It forces the reader into the story, making them part of the action and complicit in events. This is hard to sustain over longer pieces of writing, which is one reason it is rarely used in narrative texts.

you were writing about trying things out? so thats why i meant there are demo/trial versions for. I prefer that compared to a sub.

So far remember you could download everything, since the trial was Reason+ sub for 1 month, but completely free. So a lot of people just created new mail adresses, after creating new account and picking the free trial, the canceled the sub. Easy and clean.
I see your point, but i rather have a limited version of the program, than paying for something in advance just to try it out. even if thats only a buck. (that one buck was to make freeloading and also identification easier for Reason, not to actual give you more value.)

Ableton has free 90 days trial of the suite version, you can download all Suite ALPs.

Ableton doesnt need to push so much like Reason needed, since they have the app, Ableton Push, which brings extra $$$ for them. So its unlikely they will ever go sub. Also they are a huge company as linkedin shows.

sometimes you get an answer and sometimes you dont, thats how forums work ...

Also you got an answer now from me for this post. :mates:

NO subscription is the best subscription. If it ain't scene released it don't get used.

    Reason #1.
Learned that after tons of ca$h being spent thru the years for shit that is collecting dust in a large corner of the closet. Learned it also from getting burned and/or ripped-off by paying good money to greedy corporate developers that think people who buy their shit are there only to be exploited...

    Reason #2.
A lot of legit junk anymore requires the use of a persistent internet connection. This is especially true with "subscription" bullshit. I will not connect production machines to the internet. Ever. Hence, the scene makes this possible in spades. Praise the witches!

Hard not to pour hatred on the idea of paying money and owning nothing.

thats a big problem, since software should last longer than clothing. also software isnt something like a trend.

@Lad Impala yes 90 days, they increased it from 30 days to 90 days as pandemic was happening and they kept it i think.
