It's was useful, I learned a lot from Youtube in the old days.
However I hate it since it changed to "Adtube".
I know the platform and creators must earn some cash, but it became an abuse.
Also, their rights are a bit "strange". They use to work under a specific politic tendency.

Don't forget they can hide a ketchup video, but they can aprove a video wich content shows a semi-naked girl with her b00bs to the air without problems.

EDIT: I forgot to tell about the new, anoying and toxic shorts system. Really annoying! It just turned... humm... high IQ people platform, just like IG.

The only thing wrong now is that it is difficult for anyone who wants to learn anything new to know which people actually are the true experts of their craft. There are some easy finds in audio engineering like Dan Worrall as one example, but not every 'expert' is quite as obvious and neither are the charlatans. You end up wading through a third (if you're lucky) before you realize they've stolen it from somewhere else and attempting to profess their knowledge with less than a few years real life experience in a professional environment. Grey hairs are not a sign of anything other than life experience. While that is certainly useful, when it comes to subject experience, YouTube doesn't exactly ask people to prove they're capable of anything other than creating an account and uploading videos.

I personally found the people who reference all of their sources tend to be the most reliable. YouTube offers no form of authenticity other than obvious legal infringements, so tedious at times it is, but still it's the largest source of online video information.

How to watch Youtube:

1. Ignore Trending and the music section because it's almost all sponsored by Google's corporate affiliates and advertisers. Don't watch shitty channels just because they're popular.
2. Use Youtube Enhancer to fix various Youtube annoyances. But don't use its adblocking, it breaks things.
3. Use uBlock Origin for blocking ads.
4. Use Blocktube to block videos, channels, and keywords. It does an amazing job of clearing all the trash from Youtube, even if you don't block ads. (During Covid I blocked "covid"... and then I never got Covid!)
5. Use Open Video Downloader (Youtube DLP front end) or Hitomi Downloader to download videos.
6. People don't want to believe this but most of this works better on Firefox than Chrome.

 

Youtube is still my primary form of entertainment on TV (aside full movies). But lately i do feel it's kind of chore to keep up with my favorite content creators. They themselves are under a lot of pressure to keep churning out videos and i don't feel that's really contributing to the casual or fun nature of the content.

Also my favorite music channel (are sounds electric) was taken down with 100s of my favorite italo and disco records. This really made me think how i am consuming content myself. Do i keep using it as some fast food (music) bin or not? So i started downloading more music in hi-res to also enhance my listening experience.

 

i dont get tired i love it but i must say the royal family channel could get more subscribers... why taylor have billions of views and royal family has so little?

 

I use AI summary for practically every video from any channel I'm not familiar with to help me decide whether I want to watch the video in the first place.

Because the algorithm thinks it's the most optimal selection of videos that will make you spend the most amount of time on the platform. It does not care what you actually want - not one iota. YouTube does not care about your wants and (mental health) needs, it has no mission, no purpose other than to make more money. If they could get away with hosting no videos at all, guess what, they'd do exactly that in an instant.

Either actively seek out better channels by better YouTubers, ignoring YT's force fed content, or consider just... not being on YT as much and doing something different with your time.

It always depends on how high the expectations are for the quality of the videos. In a world full of influencers and manipulators, it is difficult to find appealing content that is truly honest (at least halfway). It is becoming increasingly difficult to find good content. Most videos only scratch the surface and you get the feeling that the content creators are copying each other. I have now gone back to looking for websites that provide appealing content. At the end of the day there is (at least for me) much less frustration left than when watching YouTube videos.

 

Yup, it sums up a 2 hour video in a second. It's much faster to have the content in text and it's surprisingly accurate.

You can use YT for a lot of things, but if you insist on using it for everything that annoys you, it makes sense that you get a little tired.

If any video thumbnail has their mouth open like they are in shock, they never get watched.

 

it's the era of shoving crap down your throats so nothing is ever going to change that. It's about selling the advertising space to the highest bidder. Eventually it will be taken over by complete crap. Even now, 99% of videos are rubbish in terms of content anyway.
