I have £300 - Ideas and suggestions please

  1. Hello

I have £300 from my mother that is from Christmas & my 30th Birthday and to be fair, I am struggling deciding what I want to use it towards.

Ideally something music related as that is all I really do, I was looking at buying a thinner neck for the Baja telecaster, but not entirely sure.

Please, any suggestions or ideas as to what to get. I often look at YouTube videos from music producers to see what new tech is announced, like from Arturia etc but I can't see anything that gets my attention

Buy some nice clothes that are really comfy or improve the space where you play & then work the tele. If you love the tele, it's far better to be improve at it than try something new.

to really get "bang for the buck" someone would need to know your setup in detail. That's how you can actually tell what you would be best spending the money on. i'd go with the guitar upgrade because you will not get very far on"tech" for 300 bucks. You could, but you'd have to know all your gear and where any problems are. Like a bad studio chair, or low RAM, or bad headphones.

Have you thought about investing it?

I recommend getting all my sounds and presets. All of them for just 10$ and you'll be supporting some random 18 y/o ;)

Jokes aside, I'd put some of the money aside and just save it. Always a great decision to invest some amount of it too.

  7. Here's a brief glimpse at my setup

    • MacBook Pro M1 16GB 1TB
    • Apollo Twin MK2
    • KRK Rokit 8's (2nd Gen)
    • Audio Technica M50x & BeyerDynamic DT 990 Pro
    • Fender Baja Telecaster
    • Squire Classic Vibe Stratocaster (Upgraded with Fender pickups)
    • Komplete kontrol S61 MK2 (Although don't really use it as neither the K'ed or Legit Komplete Kontrol software works properly with my Native Instruments and Arturia plugins)
    • Maschine MK3

I have a DDJ-400 in excellent condition, I'd be willing to sell for £80

save it and maybe you can buy more expensive hardware synth or if something on your computer breaks.

i wouldnt just buy something, because i have money, done that in the past and then something broke ... and i wished i had that money, which i spend on stuff i dont needed ...

you could use better monitors, but you'd need more money. you also have 2 decent quality sets of headphones to counteract the KRK's a little. Do you like the M50x more than the DT-990 pros? Are the Beyers 250 ohm? How is your UAD driving the 990s? My Motu 828es could be better. So if it was for me, I might consider a lower impedance set of headphones or a headphones amp. Maybe a set of IEMs? But that could easily wait too.

Do you make electronic music and use a lot of samples? that 1TB internal is not going to fly for long. You should get a larger capacity external drive if you do not have one. What size computer monitor are you using? A real monitor is so much better than macbook. But then you might also need cable and probably a hub.

Are you recording guitar parts, and if so could cables be better? New strings or thinner neck....

Those are some of the things I would be looking at which don't cost a lot of money. You know your setup better than anyone else.

  13. With the M50x's I find the low end to be a bit more than it should be, but with the 990's I find the high end to be more than it should be. I have xlr cables on my shopping list anyway as I also have a 50 euro voucher from Thomas.

In terms of recording guitar, I tend to use amplitude. I have a pedal board but I find as soon as I put my guitar through it and turn on an overdrive, the signal goes really muffled.

My suggestion is hang onto the money, don't spend it add onto it regularly and wait for a deal that is unbelievable and too good to pass up. Don't listen to all those that are telling you to spend it on this or that, use your common sense, I'm telling you from actual experience. often having money on hand, several times I got unbelievable deals that I'd have to be insane to pass up on and still own them many years later, you just have to be patient, money talks in these hard times. Good luck.
