And what if it is exactly the oposite? A few years ago till nowadays the tendency was to use autotune as hell. Hundreds of photocopies that only want to do the very exact same as the guy next door. And now diffussion models are going to photocopy them all even better that they can imagine. So a lot of creative people will look into ways of not doing the same anymore. It can force us to go beyond our usual reference frames in a good way.

I'm into diffusion models since Disco Diffusion and it was a matter of time that they catch the music realm. I've been toying around with the uDio tool a few days now, and it seems that the more popular the genre the more accurate the generations. So country, pop, rock, trap, etc, etc, they are protrayed really well. But no Dylan/Chuch D lyrics has come of any of the generations. No intentionallity whatsoever. Is just a stock music generatior toy.

But if you try to get any IDM, experimental or leftfield music out of it it just spit garbage, the newer the genre the less dataset they have the worst the generation is. But it can be a wonderful tool when refined, and a lot of people are going to make wonderful things with it.

There's more bad music than ever.
There's also more good music than ever.

The question is how has discoverability of good music changed over time and has the ratio of good music to bad music changed?

As for discoverability, I'm 97% certain that finding good music is harder than ever. Algorithmic feeds are payola, but a billion times worse. Algorithmic optimisation for profit means going to great lengths to avoid presenting you with too much edge and otherness for fear of making you turn off the app. The 'best' feed won't let you make 'bad' experiences.

The extent to which the discoverability problem influences the perceived quality of today's music is unclear.

If you like rhythmic complexity, times are probably pretty good. If you like melodic, harmonic complexity, probably less so.

    wow. im speechless.

i don't have that deep knowledge of music theory, i cannot either confirm nor deny what he is saying.
but he does present some good arguments, like always.

Would someone possibly enlighten me what Foster is all about? I already came across members calling trolls like that; however, I don't know the history behind it.

Was there a well-known troll whose name was Foster?

    Thanks in advance.

How did we found music before the algorithm? I don't wait for the music to be presented to me. I search for it actively when I can and is so much easy if you are on some sort of scene with friends that share similar interest. And if you aren't on a scene of some sort, search for something you like on Soulseek and browse the folders of the users that have it. There are millions of ways of finding good music nowadays.

I think the way most people are making music nowadays sucks the life out of the soul . . . not organic by any means.

    Agreed with you in that.
My opinion is that recommendations algorithms like google, youtube, facebook were wayy better when they weren't so refined.
i liked better when the feed was less biased

i KNOW , HOW BOUT YA PICK UP A REAL FRIKKIN INSTRUMENT AND LEARN TO PLAY !!
    A controller , computer and midi files , ( and stealing loops to 'create' ( ?? ) music .... "Really Isnt !!"

All this AI shit coming about is only for the talentless ..... and rapper morons. You will NEVER kill the guitar , or a drummer
    or a real vocalist , NEVER !!

Buff, a vocalist can pass, but a guitar? and drums? those are interfaces to bend the sound waves. They sepparate the individual from the real music. Who needs drums when you can clap your hands in the air like you just don't care.

Reduce contemplation and rumination... & do more action! :guru:

Have gratitude and find ways for yourself to appreciate the present moment.

We do not have enough data or brain power to make proper general assessments. :(
There is enough evidence to confirm any biases you may have. Beliefs are only limitations. :excl:

We are lucky if a problem only has a single solution or truth; usually there are multiple.
You could easily say that everything is falling apart, or that everything is coming together; either can be proven.

If you think music is dead then be the one to bring it back to life or find something different to listen to and create.
    :welcome:

look for curated playlists on youtube, you can usually find a 2 or 3 best of this or that style that someone put together,. have found many good bands that way.

    for instance...
