Try being stuck with only an electric guitar, a 4-track cassette machine, and an Alesis Microverb in 1994, and trying not to imagine what your music would be like if you had access to any and all of the instruments of the world at your disposal.

 

The thing is, if your music now, involved also using computerised parts for a live performance, if the power goes off without any UPS backup, you can still continue the song and possibly, do the rest of the night without the computer/laptop, unplugged. Without the experience you had and it's a great thing, you'd have to cancel the performance. Wow, a microverb... yes the Alesis gear was great for its time.

Now KONTAKT has just about every instrument made in some kind of library.... I am undecided whether that is a good or bad thing, even though the samples are generally of a high quality. Time will tell.

 

I may be wrong, but missing .nicnt files are the library-supplier/ uploader's fault, aren't they?
Or do these officialy come without ?

One would be supposed to use it in folder tab then, right...

 

Actually you can do a similar thing by creating your own master folders in Kontakt.

Take a look at the following attached images, and you will get what I mean by master folders.

Each master folder includes only one nicnt, and it nicnts all of the kontakt libraries at once including the libraries that don't have its own nicnt file.

I always create a master folder for each kontakt library developer, but you can create only one master folder for all of your libraries.

If anyone is interested in the solution, I can create a thread to tell how to build perfect master folders.

P.S : I use Kontakt 6 and this method only works for now in Kontakt 6. Kontakt 7 somehow doesn't see master folders.

If you think Kontakt is the worst then you have never used GigaStudio, BestService Engine, EastWest Play or Spitfire Player. There is a reason why Kontakt became the standard in sampling world. It is not perfect but in my opinion it's way better than all of the competition. Sine Player is pretty good but unfortunately it's never going anywhere because Orchestral Tools don't want it to become a sampler, just a closed proprietary player that is used to play only their sample libraries.

If you don't understand how it works and what its purpose is and you refuse to do the research and learn, then be mad at the user and not the instrument. Imagine ranting like this about guitars and calling them "the worst thing ever" only because you can't be arsed to learn how to play it.

 

"Nobody wants these things anymore"? I dont remember you asking me. What is your sample size?
I'll take the opinion of an experinced user with the gravitas and respect it deserves. Kontakt is just a tool. If you bothered to spend some time with it, it can be customised to your needs and it fits mine perfectly.

 

different tools are for different purposes, man.

maybe you dont need Kontakt, try something else and free 2.6tb

Look, I dont like Kontakt, but I dont think NI is shit. For other people this tool can be gold.

 

How 'useless' is it? Do you not know how to load an NKI file? Yeah, it's easier when there's a nice pretty picture in rack view, but the old libs are still totally useful.

 

Apparently, it's too hard for some people. MOST of my libs are still in that format. Sure, a pain in the ass to navigate, but hardly 'useless'.

 

Yeah, because ripping a bunch of archaic format CD's (you still use CDs) to get a bunch of 30 year old sounds is totally the best way to make modern music.

 

this is funny because whatever problems kontakt may have, it is by far the best & easiest way to play/rip those 90's sample cds

I write mostly Eskimoo Shoegaze (snowshoegaze) and Aurora Borealis World Beats (northern lightz) and South American Dance Music (southernitz) and I can't agree more. I just buy the NI Komplete boxes off Ebay and put them on my shelfs at the studio. They look soooo good. I usually just leave a couple Komplete DvD's laying around to look cool.

I've never actually installed it and have no idea what it does. I mostly use old sample I run through NI Intakt.

Whenever I get any invites to activities I don't want to participate in, I just tell them I have to move and reindex my NI library and I get sympathetic looks and nobody bothers me for a week and I can make glorious Eskimoo Shoegaze.

So I consider NI Komplete a blessing in wolfs undershorts..

 

actually limits are what define our music. if you have unlimited sounds, you just get lost in choices.That was the beauty of tape, you had to make commits as you went along, you only had so many tracks and you had to choose what to do with them and then stick with it.

I still mostly use a 24 track digital recorder and the same 6 pedals, 2 amps and a guitar processor to write my songs, its nice to have the same flow everday, and it has enough versatility to fit a wide range of styles.

Its better to perfect your skills on a couple of tools, then to spend forever dabbling and learning a million plug ins and librarys, at least from where i sit.

electronic drums and keyboards, because who has room for a dozen drum kits or keyboards and patch cables and associated gear, plus the set up time would kill any creative juices.

 

thinking about it , my biggest gripe with kontakt is nobody has made a musical leaf library.
