Kontakt is the worst thing, why did we adopt this as a standard?

Im looking at my kontakt collection and half of these libraries dont have the nicnt file and are basically useless.

How did this awful tool ever make it so big? This has to be the worst program ever, its just a frame for libraries and still manages to fail.

I wish there would be a tool that you could insert all your kontakt folders and it would just nicnt them all at once. This is so horrible. I do believe native instruments is propably the worst audio company ever, theres nothing they have that intrests me at all.

    edit
Since everyone seems to disagree i have additional question for you:

If kontakt is so great, why do we have bobdule, vkDanilov , Trazor , The guy doing the kontakt library utility? These are not cracks these are tools to make living with that nightmare somewhat a possibility

KLU is great for Mac users, but just the need and existence of such a utility illustrates the OP's point. For such an "industry standard" software, it has a lot to not like about it.

    What a f'ing whiner lol.

Yeah, Kontakt is pretty much a big rompler, as someone who comes from the old days of sampling with Emax's and Akai S900-1100's and whatnot.... you weren't getting this kinda package, a different sound, and one that was foundational in changing the face of music over which the tools you are using now rely.

I got plenty of issues with NI, believe me you, but I'm sorry you can't take your hundreds of gigabytes and whatnot you have gotten from sister site 0and I'm pretty sure you haven't spent much time doing the gritty work of real sampling yourself), and just have it all "appear" for you like magic.

I'm moving systems this week and a big move up, and I have almost 20 years of Kontakt libraries I am hoping to sift through somewhat and with the help of @Fred Bloggs amazing tools and his hard work on this, I hope that it will go "relatively" smoothly, and I am so damn appreciative of not only the work he has done, but responsiveness to other users, and how damn cool he is to have taken on this task that can be quite formidable.

And I know I am going to be bugging the f out of him and others as I do that process of moving over... but I know that's on me to understand, yet thankful for others for the heavy lifting with their ability in coding, and the help in the process... I know NI is gonna shit on my leg.

And I've also got SO much from the aforementioned libraries from 30, hell, longer then that by almost a decade, samples and whatnot and key groups that I have painstakingly made over the decades... and the hard way.

I'm sorry there isn't someone to come over to your house and do the work for you, as I imagine you would be a little challenged with keymapping and routing, perhaps truncating, looping tails, and everything that comes along with, well, what samplers are about.

Kontakt is a sample playback piece of software. A good one. (For what it portends) with some well established libraries and the competition has faded off from Samplitude to MachIV/V whatever, Garritan, and down the line of things that don't have the scripting ability and nature that Kontakt does....

and sure, you can use the "simpler" samplers in whatever daw you use if you like, or pull up your sleeves with an Akai S1000 and look at that LCD for hours, and go at it.

Or use UVI stuff or Falcon if you like. There are other options if you look.

But man, this is get off my lawn kinda stuff, as I don't know your age, but your OP is one of the most entitled things I've seen of late.

I remember kontakt from back in the day. Guess what it was such a garbage thing even back then compared to everything. At some point native instruments made a bunch of really crappy kontakt libraries and called the package "KOMPLETE". Nobody wants those things anymore but that is sadly what got the real sample library developers to adopt this really bad standard

Whats the point of telling me to use UVI if all these great libraries are not in UVI format and are basically wasted only because native instruments is stupid and greedy company

"but I'm sorry you can't take your hundreds of gigabytes"

Its 2.6 terabytes at the moment and i threw away 1 terabyte because its such an useless format to have them on nks

I dont care if you are 80 years old and have samples from time before computers, thats an un-argument and only bragging

They still call it "Komplete", or their collection of products etc in marketing... and as I said, I got plenty of problems a mile long to go on Native Instruments about, but one of them isn't my own laziness or feeling that they owe me something and/or/because their competition failed. And hey, I was just encouraging you to perhaps create your own sample library as that is kinda what people do, or did, or whatnot.

because I'm giving you another option of provider for your rompler needs if you find it hard to do the work yourself.

    :disco:

ok summer child, you find it inconvenient to have to work to import your 2.6TB's of sample libraries that you spent no time creating and imaginably even less money obtaining?

I'm not bragging about anything, and my point stands.

Rather then asking the right questions, and to the right people, you rant about it all just not falling your lap as it's some fault of Native Instruments that you can't organize or get a grip on your pirated library based on their instrument.

    Pretty damn funny man.

And correspondingly pretty damn pathetic. :)

    • “Whining” usually refers to that squeaky-voiced complaining that people (largely kids) make to try and coerce listeners (usually parents) into giving the kid what it wants.
    • “Whinging” is more recreational complaining undertaken by any person or group of people when they don't get their way.
There is a huge ass thread where people request wallpapers for various Kontakt libraries because they have made their own nicnt file. Bob Dule's Kontakt releases comes with a Nicnt Maker tool that does just that. Easily.

Kontakt is the most uninspring sample based software instrument I've used. No soul, a waste of space, too clean, overpriced, ugly and annoying to use that even the cracked version is dependant on wasting time. 90s Sample CDs all the way and also sample yourself! NI only care about money hence their decline in quality.

Always entertaining when people talk about something they've never really taken the time to properly understand...
The disadvantage is of course that there is a risk that beginners will believe the nonsense they read and that is a shame.

It is fine to dislike any product. I can see why many people may find KONTAKT does not fit their needs.
I can also see why it does fit many needs, Film scorers, documentary writers, songwriters, composers and more. whether as a scratchpad or finished product, I seriously doubt Native Instruments would be heading towards their 8th version if it was either unsuccessful or not any good.
When they created it, they did not sit there and think "Let's make a crap product and see how many will buy it?"

There are some great sample libraries only available on KONTAKT and for many people, that's a good enough reason.

Kontakt is pretty much a DAW in itself. It comes with more built-in effects than most people have installed as plugins. It's also very programmable. Most other samplers only have 2 or 3 built in effects (if that) and can't be programmed beyond rudimentary 'play sample, choke sample, round robin'. Anyone's free to develop and publish Kontakt. If you don't care for NI distributing your download, it's completely free for you. That's why developers absolutely love Kontakt.

In the range of Kontakt banks there are pearls of imagination and sound, I used the first hardware samplers, the first soft samplers, at the time, 2 seconds of sampling made our eyes shine!
You can always have criticisms about it as long as they are constructive and proven.

If Kontakt is the flu, then the alternatives are the bubonic plague - if your instrument is more than 'note on', 'note off'.

The application for musicians is great, but the tools are seriously dated. I tried working in the sample editor and my eyes were strained. I wonder how the big libraries deal with the terrible ergonomics of Kontakt's editor.

They use the Kontakt Creator Tools and write sample mapping scripts in Lua in their preferred editor to automate the tedious, repetitive steps. Many developers use the KSP extension in Sublime to write the bits that can't be written in Lua.

this is the most inadequate reason to consider kontakt a bad tool that I have ever heard/read.
