Behringer's first VST instrument: VINTAGE PLUGIN

Original virtual synthesizer with powerful oscillators, filters and lfos, modelled on the analog circuitry of vintage synthesizers.

Features:
It features two analog-modeled multi-wave oscillators (sine, square, saw, noise) with a hard-sync function and a sub-oscillator. Pulse width modulation on the square wave oscillator is also possible. There is also a noise generator with a color knob controlling the lowpass cutoff frequency.

Then, it hosts two flexible filters featuring 12/24 dB switchable lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch, and formant modes, plus selectable drive curves for lush harmonic saturation. You can also modify the routing of the filters, allowing for serial or parallel filtering.

The audio signal path is concluded with two amp modules with a built-in ADSR envelope, panning, and leveling options.

On the modulation side, you have two LFOs made for modulating the oscillators, filters, and amplifiers. The two LFOs are feature-rich, offering separate controls for rate, attack, delay, retrig, and waveform. The latter includes triangle, sine, random, and square wave with pulse-width control.

Besides the LFOs, it has two envelopes, one for the filter and another for the amp.

It seems nice and sounds nice. Nothing groundbreaking. Isn't this a plugin version of Behringer's Deepmind? It reminds me of it but I think Deepmind has more features.

Nice of them to make it free. Except for the registration part, of course... free license in exchange for some personal data. Oh well, not like anyone and their grandma doesn't do data collecting these days...

There is no way to get the license: Beringa website is stuck on the spinning wheel. Uli loves to piss us off even with software releases

Yeah noticed immediately and most definitely it was outsourced to Markus Krause or there is a small chance that Beringer ripped his designs Which would be funny actualy

 

Finally after a few hundred attempts I managed to connect to the Musictribe website to get the license.

Vintage VST: first impressions

• The sound seems like a VST plugin from the early 2000s, it might vaguely remind of Deepmind, but worse. I haven't found this vaunted "power of vintage synth".
• It's buggy, like every Beringa new release. As usual, Uli uses his customers as beta testers.
  
• The midi mapping doesn't stay in memory, so when changing presets, all controller mapping is gone: very frustrating.
• When changing the presets with the arrows, it happens that the sound does not change and you have to resort to the browser.
• ADSR: I didn't understand the behavior of release value (it often doesn't work).
• No FX

Considering that Behringer had all the time available to code a decent virtual instrument, this release is quite undewhelming: Uli still has a long way to reach the level of the other devs. The fact that a plugin is free does not mean that it must be "cheap", in the software context it doesn't work like that.

I guess Uli is testing whether or not there is interest in his software. Now, he'll be there counting the downloads to see if he should continue to code new products. This is not a plugin, it's marketing
