what if analog gear had continued to evolve. Would a modern personal studio look like this?

 

Theres lots of new analog gear. I think the evolution is ongoing.

 

When did anything analog stop evolving?

Adding digital to the world is a parallel path and different means and opportunities.

We always are going to have analog in our lives, and I'm not just talking about music gear...

 

I sure hope not. If your standard for personal studio requires you to keep a gun on your desk, something is really wrong in that universe.

since its theoritical it can sound however you can dream, if you can only dream poorly then it will sound poorly.
some are prisoners of their own expectations....

 

the universe is analog.

 

I wonder what the next step in the evolution of the vinyl platter would be? Perhaps a more dururable material with a super hard needle. The bass would maybe able to go lower in frequency because new technology would enable the needle to stay in the groove and not jump out..and other things of note.

magnavox had a laserdisc like player that used analog discs that were stamped from a master like a vinyl LP, never caught on but I wonder what the frequency response on that device was....

Laser discs had pretty good sound, they supported both analog signals and uncompressed PCM audio akin to CD's etc...and DTS etc... and iirc, they sounded better then the compressed audio coming off DVD's etc...

 

It's actually discrete and quantised

No, but i wouldn't consider those representative of what a "personal studio" in the general sense looks like.
