The Album is pure crap. Mindless Songs & Lyrics. Beats like it's 1999. SORRY dear "Jenny from the Block". You've had your time - back then 25 yrs ago!
Actually you have never been a proper musician yourself just riding that R'n'B Wave of the 1990's like many others and cashed out well. Now better accept that the youngsters these days don't even know you anymore. Your time is over!

First guess: if a pop album flops it's probably because the marketing wasn't up-to-par?

My second guess is that pop is a teenager/twentysome game, where one can flash youth's beauty, sing desperately naive love songs and be 'poetic' about sex, drugs and partying, in which one finds connection with a peer generation. You're new and fresh and it's easy for the industry and people to love you. Then you get older, you're nothing new, and if you keep doing the same it gets kind of...embarrassing? Your old fans have moved on and new fans are hard to come by.

Third guess: 10 years in pop is an eternity, its rules have been rewritten a hundred times in that time frame. You can't just repeat the same tunes that used to work. Beyoncé went country, J-Lo could have gone... metal? You know, do something different :)

Overall it seems pretty hard, even next to impossible, to stay relevant in the pop industry. It's continually driven by the next big thing, and anything that came before, forgotten. A bit like the porn industry if I'm being bland :)

The album is mind numbingly trash. It's like she's a 'live laugh love' chick, and it's just not appealing to people, since the album is about her identity, now!

She's too old. She doesn't really competes with acts like Dua Lipa etc.

Also her '24 album is full of boring R&B stuff, not a single track in a modern style.

Meanwhile last decade was dominated by recycled 80s cliches, so I don't think you are right... It is more likely that her target group (girls that listen to Doja cat and similar don't know who she is) and never heard the album.

    Very accurate.
J-Lo became famous as the young girl who comes from the slums and rises to success, it worked 20 years ago, but now this role no longer fits her: she is now a wealthy middle-aged woman, not been able to reinvent herself in a credible way. I wonder why in the $20 million budget she didn't include a team of professionals to build a new image for her, didn't anyone, not even her husband, suggest it?
I think there is only one possible answer: Ego

She made a disney movie for adults? Thats a hard sell. Also, that first comment... "Nobody loves Jlo as much as Jlo". Damn lol

This was hard to watch. Cringe worthy for sure.

Well at least she has her acting career. I smell a Ben Awfuk/Jenny movie in the near future. She plays an aging Singer with a Stalker and Ben is her bodyguard, romance follows - lots of car chase scenes, in one she sings on the roof of an RV limousine moving down the 405 while taking heavy gunfire.

Stalker turns out to be Sean Combs, heavy rotation on Netflix/Amazon/AppleTV. Cross promotion Jenny from the Block Body Armour and Jennys Invincible Energy Drink. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to follow..

PS cameo appearance by Batman who looks a lot like Ben..

I find it hilarious that many of these legacy artists are getting a splash of cold water in their faces and not making the kind of bank they are accustomed to. If you've been around 30-40 years and are thinking the music industry is still the same as it was in your prime - you deserve that slice of humble pie. There are countless artists out there who are trying to find an audience that would sell their souls for a small fraction of the success that these older superstars have had over the years. I would rather go see 20 up and coming bands for $10 cover charges than spend $200 for nosebleed section seats at one of these diva's overpriced concerts.

Indeed devastated that over $500,000 worth of hardware does not mean people will buy your garbage.
The Music industry is in complete idiocracy mode, we don't want looks we want music talent like we used to have decades ago.
We want musicians who after 2 songs are sweating their faces off, not this dancing routine with backtracks going for 2 hours.

Yea, yea...she didn't write it, just sang it pretty well and it was hyped and hyped and hyped, the video technically advanced as it was computer generated those 23 years ago and was a fresh take for it's VH1 target audience. The song has fine production value albeit with as inane lyrics as it can possibly get. It always felt to me that her music career was built on business opportunities and not the pursuit of art in any way. I couldn't listen to her voice then and can't go there still. I also never appreciated woman with exaggerated gluteus maximus muscles, so there's that too.

I have no idea how bad this album was but I can imagine. She should fire her manager, her accountants, her agent, her psychiatrist, and anyone else who did not tell her this was going to happen. All that any of them needed to know to prevent this debacle was her having to pony up the money to do the project. She spent 20.MILLION.DOLLARS. to make an album.

How could you even spend that much on an album of that kind of music? Was she paying herself out as labor? People have suggested Marketing, but what marketing? Did anyone on here honestly know this album even existed before this thread on a forum?

Did her label not explain to her why they did not want to invest the money in it? Maybe they did some kinds of market testing research before making their decision. Did she not believe them? I know everyone on here can say she is old now, makes bad music, pop garbage, and that would all be true. But something else had to be going on here. The entire thing is Lunacy.
