Did anyone solve an anxiety issue with a psychologist?

    I think this, to conclude my participation: there is no point in calling a psychologist (who has a different function than a psychiatrist) to deal with issues related to anxiety if you are not open to it. Simply. Go talk about your problems in a bar conversation, get hammered, smoke a joint or stuff yourself with medicine (but look: be prepared to bear the consequences of your schizoid behavior!).

    When everyone says that psychology doesn't work, is it because, in general, people are not receptive to looking into the depths of the abyss, realizing that the bottom of the abyss looks back at you, after a long (and sometimes painful) process, and says: What the fork are you going to do with this now?

    It will depend solely and exclusively on each one (maybe that's exactly what bothers people the most!). The psychologist, based on some method, will help you put things into perspective and guide you to try to avoid dysfunctions (if you really want, of course).

    Without further ado, anything beyond that is to intrigue and denigrate professionals who have one of the most important and least valued roles in our decadent society (based on empty consumerism patterns and the pain that this entails).

    I was dealing with anxiety as well as depression, in a life that, by any metric, is rich, fulfilling and safe. Good job, amazing wife, nice house, all of it. Yet I'd go through these crippling moments of despair, and I'd also obsess over situations that didn't (and wouldn't likely happen). It was making me miserable, and it was making my wife miserable. She certainly doesn't deserve it.

    I'd often just go in and talk about how I was feeling, what kinds of things set me off, what I did that week, etc. But as the conversations went on, he'd just ask me things like, "Where do you think that came from?" or "Why do you think you do that/feel that way?" My answers would just sometimes make me go, "hmmm..." and start to see things from a different perspective. He would coach me a bit on how to deal with those anxieties and depressive states when I feel them coming on. We would also from time to time talk about my childhood. I have a very dominating father and a very anxious mother. He wasn't doing the 'blame you parents' thing, but he did point out, numerous times, what I modeled some of these behaviors on, whether consciously or subconsciously.

    One thing he told me that was pivotal is the idea of not punishing yourself or feeling bad for feeling bad. When you get mad at yourself for being anxious or depressed, instead of just accepting it's how it is and you are trying to change things, you end up making yourself feel even worse. You're subconsciously associating being anxious or depressed as something bad, something you did wrong, or failed at. Once I stopped doing that, getting through those periods got a lot easier.

    Every person is different. What will work for me may or may not work for you. But it has worked for millions of people, so why not try it? You have to want to fix this. And that means being open to things that have proven to work for many people. If you're looking for reasons not to, it tells me you're afraid to fix this. And I get that too.

    Yes, it doesn't work for some people, and some people are also just fucking idiots who couldn't think their way out out of a cardboard box and just don't know what they're talking about. If you want to get better, you need to try. It's not just going to go away or fix itself. Good luck!

    The key thing to learn in therapy is that you can never "solve" the anxiety but you can apply strategies (that are different for everyone) on how to manage it.

    Tibetan Buddhists and Bön practicioners don't think you need to expand your consciousness but rather that you have to stop being so ignorant as to think you need to expand anything to begin with. That being said, there are some really cool stuff to help with that but I ain't sharing none of that here.

    It worked. Its not a work in progress. Its not coping. Its gone. So yeah, I had to share that with anyone that might find it helpful. And prevent them from losing money to methods that dont work. People with anxiety disorders fear that they have some serious illness or that they will go crazy. Nothing is wrong with them! There is nothing to find in the past. And even if you do find something guess what. You wont get better. This is really old school psychoanalytic therapy that will lead to 10 years of sessions without any result. Even CBT doesnt focus on the past at all. And its the main treatment for anxiety disorders. Please try to get some good information about your condition and dont fear to add drugs to your treatment. This is a stigma that needs to stop.

    Psychologists are for bad break ups and self improvement. And nothing is guaranteed even in those cases. They make their living from bad break ups and relationship related issues.

    I had countless sessions with psychologists all these years. So my experience is this. Take or leave it. And I only speak for anxiety disorders. I dont have any experience with other mental conditions. For example if you are bipolar and also get panic attacks, this is a completely different thing. But its easy to get a diagnose of what is wrong with you. If you fear that you have a health issue or that you are going crazy then its just anxiety. You dont have cancer, a brain tumor etc and you are not going crazy. Its anxiety. Try CBT first and if you having difficulties add a psychiatrist in the mix to give you some strength. Dont stay on an antidepressant for a long time. After 6 months visit your doctor again and ask for a change in the drug. Dont search the internet for symptoms, dont fear any symptom you have. Dont fear your own thoughts. Accept that your anxiety levels are high all day and all night. This produces those symptoms. Anxiety is what helped us survive as humans. So its an old mechanism that its still useful. But today you are not gonna lose your life by a tiger. Today you worry about your work, your family etc. The mechanism is still there and it doesnt understand different kinds of danger. To your body, danger means that there is a mean tiger that will eat you alive. So you get a rush of adrenaline that makes all those body and mind symptoms. Brutal and animalistic fear. So dont expect much. Your thoughts and your body symptoms will be wild. Its normal!

    Why is this happening? Heredity is the main reason. Ask your parent or your relatives for other cases of anxiety in your family. Some are hidden behind alcoholism for example. Also we all have specific limits to our nervous system as we have with any other system in our bodies. How can I know that? A little example. Veterans have seen some pretty nasty stuff in wars. Not all veterans have post traumatic disorders. So yeah, accept that for a lot of nervous systems the 0-100% in the anxiety scale, is shorter than other people.

    And last thing. Why this is so common in our field? Why do artists have anxiety disorders that they try to hide it behind drugs and alcohol? Artists have a lot of imagination(duh), empathy and usually they are smart people. So guess what. All this imagination can work against you. You mind will go wild by imagining illnesses. Imagining any kind of stupid what if. I am sure you know a lot of artists that have or had anxiety issues. For example basket case from green day is a song for anxiety disorder and panic attacks.

    Bottom line is this. You need a brain to have an anxiety disorder. That means that most anxiety sufferers are smart people. Your mind can turn against you. And boy it has so many reasons to make you believe that you are not well. Its like comparing a current cpu with a pentium 386. You mind runs fast! A guy with a 386 can get persuaded that he is fine even from a priest. And dumb guys rarely get anxiety disorders. They can get a panic attack here and there, but its always a reason in their minds. Oh I drunk too much, or I ate that thing. But not to you people with fast cpus. There is always cpu power for another thought and another thought. How do we go from panic attack to panic disorder? By worrying! We do it to ourselves. You get the first panic attack. Its scary as hell. In fact it was the most scary thing you ever experienced. And here is the crucial moment. You blame it on something else. Anything. I didnt sleep well, I ate this, I am tired. Or you thing that something is wrong with you. What is wrong with you? Is it a heart problem, a brain thing? Am I going crazy? The smarter the guy, the more thoughts he is having. And guess what. Brain says this guy is in danger. Brain cannot understand what is wrong. Brains just senses danger. So it sounds the alarm. First anxiety attack-> fear about whats wrong -> brain senses danger -> alarm=panic attack -> more fear about whats wrong etc etc. And here is the answer to psychologists. Brain doesnt understand what is wrong. It just sounds the alarm. Why it doesnt understand it. Cause this is happening to the lower part of our brain, the reptilian brain. So psychologists claim that they can discuss problems with the reptilian brain. Good luck with that!

    I once paid a psychologist 20$ to stop following me around and my anxiety stopped almost immediately.

    I think we have a glass that fill with stressors (assholes, noises, pain, extreme temperatures, starvation, etc) , if you don't find ways of empty the tank, it is gonna fall and you will colapse. So everybody needs shelf care, to learn how to regulate the levels of stress. If the damage is very deep or very fast may be you never recover from that. More than never we have to learn to cope with this situations to prevent going further on the illness stairs.

    talking to my parents helped more than talking with a psychologist.. the parents give better advice and recommendations and explanations than doctors or so.. the doctors lie and they will never tell the truth that some ilnesses will never be cured it is very awful actually it is.. when a doctor suddenly gets very rich you can guess how.. it happened..

    That's your experience, and I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. Regardless, therapy DOES work for many, many people, and I think it's foolish to discourage someone from even trying it.

    Man reduce skang , start exercise and anxiety is over . Also drink some chamomile its the best for this problem
