Alcohol is very bad idea in this case.
It will increase anxiety and bad thoughts.
It is like flu and what eating raw potato can cause.
    Alcohol can cause depression.
Alcohol works on organism in the similar way as depression works on organism.
    And same with anxiety.
If you wanna drink alcohol to heal anxiety or depression.
It is the same if you would heal flu with eating raw potato.

I've been in and out psychologists all of my life and the only person that managed to help me improve my life significantly was a random dude that happened to have studied tibetan medicine in Nepal. Just sharing my experience.

Perhaps anxiety issues aren't as common as you thought. One cannot say they healed anxiety if they never had as an issue it to begin with.
Well then fucking look for statistics, not anecdotes.

As for anecdotes. Did therapy help me? No, my anxiety comes from autistic need for control which cannot be met. It eases off whenever I remember to trust God. Now, did therapy help someone I know?
Every single friend of mine who participated in therapy and put in the effort themselves is now better off than ten years ago.

Their aims are to diffuse your energy and change you to an inefficacious being. All the people that psychologists confirm are bland and nondescript persons.

Anxiety Disorders are like False-Positive AntiVirus alarms.
Anxiety Disorders are just normal natural human reaction but triggered without reason.
They should be triggered in the extremal situations like life danger.
But they are triggered without reason and pull series of bad thoughts and brain looking for stimuli and you overthinking and this is food for anxiety and your fear increases and wrong wheel had started and seems it has no end.
    That's why this is Disorder.

First off, your belief has nothing to do with whether or not it's true. What does the research say? What is the actual evidence of its effectiveness? It's not some thing like religion, where there's zero evidence. There's plenty of evidence showing the efficacy of seeing a good therapist.

I can say that it helped me immensely. It wasn't overnight. I had crippling anxiety issues that were manifesting in ways that were harming relationships. A good therapist doesn't so much give you advice... they make you say things out loud and reflect on them and hopefully, guide you to change. But to be successful, you need to be able to allow yourself to be vulnerable, and that's not easy for many people.

Last point... find the right one. You might not click with the first one you meet. Ask a lot of questions beforehand, and if you're not comfortable with someone, or you feel it's really getting nowhere, that doesn't mean therapy doesn't work. It just means you haven't found the right one.

    Good luck!

How are you supposed to know something you have never experienced? Or is that just your subconscious trying to talk you out of something you know you probably need right now?

I didn't understand how to play jazz. Until I did.

You haven't looked enough. Gotta have eyes fully open, bud.

Not being a jerk here, but you've posted more about how much you don't understand therapy and how it works. You need to try it before coming to those conclusions. You don't know what you don't know.

You can't see what you're refusing to look at.

Long time anxiety disorder sufferer here. I will paste this here which is the only thing that I learned from so many wasted sessions and money.
"Neurologically you CANNOT change thoughts in order to influence emotional responses. Suggesting that it is possible is similar to saying that you can lose weight by telling your body to lose weight. It's utter nonsense.

Just going to the sessions and practising what you are told to do WILL reinforce your anxiety, phobias, obsessions and compulsions. The advice provided in this type of therapy is monumentally counter-productive and damaging to the recovery process. At best it will hold you in anxiety. At worst, it will increase your anxiety. Avoid any process that involves the word 'cognitive'... in fact, if you suffer from anxiety, avoid 'talking therapies' altogether."

I know a lot of people will disagree. But I suffered for 15 years. I learned a lot all these years. Studied every book I could find, cause I wanted my life back. So plz dont lose time. Go to a doctor if you want an easy way out. Get the drugs that are right for you. This means that you may have to change drugs, if the ones you got, dont work.

Stop searching about your condition. Stop worrying about symptoms. There is nothing wrong with you. Drugs will help you build your self esteem, and clear your mind. Get back your life and you can stop them. Or waste a lot of money, trying to find some childhood trauma that doesnt exist. Or do behavioural therapy, that asks you to lie to yourself that you are ok, when you feel like dying.

Gotta disagree. Sometimes that's how you figure out the problem is brain chemistry, in which meds might be helpful. Meds should always be the last thing, not the first.

It's not 'healed'. It's always a work in progress, and it certainly changed my life for the better.

You seem to be trying really hard to avoid even trying it. What do you have to lose at this point? Nothing else is working, right?

It's not quackery, it's a legitimate science. People know more than you do, that doesn't mean that's bad. They know how to do things you don't, and you should try listening to them instead of just repeating how little you know or understand about this.

you said...he helped you say things out loud and reflect on them.

Is that what helped you? or what exactly? can you be more specific?

everything seems to be a mystery on how ppl get healed

isn't there something specific that changed u?

Everybody is anxious. Your therapist is anxious, the pharmacist handing out anxiety drugs is anxious, everybody replying to this thread is anxious. The Dev that just saw his/her new compressor posted on the sister site is anxious as are all the people in war zones as we speak are anxious for good reason as they don't know when the next bomb or bullet will come for them or their loved ones. Sugar in processed food makes us anxious, coffee and tea makes us anxious and vaping makes us anxious. Global warming makes us anxious and not believing in global warming makes us anxious.

The only time in my life that I wasn't anxious was for six months when I read nothing, listened to no radio, watched no television, hiked for hours in the wilds and meditated for at least a couple of hours every day. I had no child or wife, girlfriend or pet, the only instrument I had was an acoustic guitar. It was unsustainable. Thinking about it makes me anxious.
