so with safe headroom enable i can move the volume up to -8.1 with it disabled i can put up to 0.0
so i put it up to zero correct?
now its 2.2 db louder with id on compared to when disabled.
do i bring volume down on id by -2.2?

Yes, if it bothers you or its clipping then match it. You will not be rendering any tracks with it on anyways so it doesn’t really matter. I leave mine a 0.0 and only adjust it when i hear clipping if i push my master bus too far. You can also lower it by -2.2. Its really up to you because like i mentioned you will have to disable it when rendering tracks if its on your master bus.

on the r2r notes it says "block the access to the internet from the app.otherwise you will lose the license.
here are some popular hosts that app tries to access
    accounts.sonarworks.com and analytics.sonarworks.com

i have done the blocking of these 2 on hosts putting 127.0.0.1 in front of them
is there something else i need to do?
as i have said i seem to have lost the license after i had the music pc online for a bit with cubase running

    @funkman

just curious, you need a profile to apply on your AKG K712 to make it sound like what?

should sound id be placed as 1st insert on master out? or after all inserts on master?

Correction software should always be placed in the last insert in your master chain. You can use it whatever way you want, but it's best to think of it like top-down mixing with the correction software after your final limiter or clipper.

Don't get obsessed by the flat sound theory, actually a flat sound/system doesn't exist in nature, instead think about a beautiful, graceful and inspiring sound against a boring, dull and overused one. You can mix a good record on cheap can too, just learn how it sounds and get used to it.

No, if you have your Limits controls in Default, the app is turning down your output to a safe headroom max point to avoid clicks and save your monitors and/or ears, this is because depending on the amount of frequency range affected (the cal correction) you may have a maximum boost apllied that might produce cracking and clicks. See the image, here Normal is at 12 dB for a Neutral response.

If it were me, I find it best to just use SoundID in Systemwide, but not in ASIO mode.

Let your DAW do that for you, just make sure you got drivers that can use windows audio devices (ASIO4ALL/FlexASIO/FL Asio).
EDIT: I actually forgot about SoundID's own ASIO driver, it works just as fine in this case.

It may not be ideal, but it never failed me if i wanted to switch between windows applications and the daw itself for referencing audio. And I don't fancy the idea of having correction on your master in a DAW really.

And as to gain staging.. Once your profile is on, Safe Headroom is better off being on, doing its thing. You can easily f*** up your decisions when the audio clips without you being aware of it.
