I guess that's why 2024 issues of ComputerMusic came with free copies of Tone2 Icarus and Tone2 Ultraspace.

 

Today, resisting and staying afloat is hard for everyone (not just us) and the advent of AI will deal a final blow to many businesses and artists. Expect to see many more funerals soon...

 

I guess, they'll stay on business improving their existing products.

Their File Silo quiz almost never works correctly. Any three answers will work most of the time. VPS Scope is also in there for free.

 

I don't know about anyone else, but when a company says we are 'Not going out of business' the first thing I think is. They are going out of business!

 

Yes, it gives me the identical impression.
It doesn't quite have the same impetus as "We had some minor setbacks but with our new release of Icarus Version 3, we intend to..."

 

I don't think someone who was not overly stressed out could have made some of those terrible choices, hope his next endeavor goes better for him. I hope his synths do keep being supported, some of them are great

Yeah Tone2 messed up with the malware protection but its old news and their protection has changed. People make mistakes and don't deserve vitriol forever. If the team have made the appropriate adjustments, lets move on.

Personally, my dealings with him have been good, questions always answered and even a personal discount on a synth.

He has developed some great sounding products that i think are undervalued and seriously underestimated. Icarus 2 is one of my favourite Synth VST's, its super deep and has a lovely full sound if you want a clean 90's digital feel. I'll be upgrading to 3, there's some solid improvements.

And AkustiX is a secret weapon if you want to explore wide headphone orientated mixes.

I wish him well. I hope he can get his life and company back on track.

it's like an audio software version of Chipotle's Listeria Special. Might sound ok, but no thanks.

 

Icarus 3 is now in beta. This is an awesome synth guys!

 

I'm not a fan of all their synths and there's way too much sonic overlap. Icarus is special though.

 

Windows build appears in early April, looking forward to it.

 

Tone2 had gold in their hands with Filterbank3, which was one of the go to tools for a lot of producers in the harder styles scene (together with Microtonic, for creating kicks). But they didn't jump on the 64bit train, at least for Mac users. So 'everyone' started to explore other options. I even remember using it in Logic with 32 Lives from Sound Radix, until Apple made it impossible to use. Of course, nowadays there are enough similar tools to choose from, but still, I think Filterbank3 had something unique to offer at that point. Good memories!
