Pornhub is now cut off from 5 American states. Wanking is the safest sex you can have. No pregnancies, no STDs. I turned my VPN off and verified that my state, Texas in the southern US, is one of those states.

Pornhub has chosen not to operate in these states because of prosecution risks. I don't have a Pornhub account and I don't care to have one, but geez... let people enjoy that ish safely.

EDIT: I fear that I've poop-stained my own reputation here. I'm 51 and the hormones of my youth just aren't what they use to be (I'm no porn king). But I reacted hastily - triggered even - and posted this thread out of fear of egregious censorship in our future.

We currently have a group of impassioned people doing everything they can to ban some books from schools here, and they've been successful. LGB-etc. books were the first to go. I don't fall into that group and I'm not as passionate about that, but books like To Kill A Mockingbird and Fahrenheit 451 appear to be banned too. Those were required reading when I was in school. I don't remember what the books were about now (it's been 35 years or so, the 1980s), but they didn't seem to harm me or my classmates. I was quite into literature at that age.

I don't have children and can't have children, so they were not the first thing that came to mind when I posted this.

I completely failed to express these aspects in my post. Thanks for reading this edit.

I'm not saying pornography is bad, I'm saying I see absolutely nothing wrong with age verification. Are you saying children should be able to access pornography freely? Or perhaps that your ability to access it as easily as possible is more important than limiting opportunities for children to be exposed to it?

 

I don't have many opinions but this is one thing I'm sure bout' -- porn is way worse than medical grade sex.

In one way I agree.
Intellectually it seems an appropriate step.
But of course the "seems" part admits of an emotional aspect involved.
Of course I claim that my emotional attachments are to scientific consensus, valid statistics, and a limited set of well-founded principles.
But ... as a skeptic, I know that scientific consensus is only what emerges (what is promoted, what oozes out like a festering pus, or what rises to the "best we can know at the moment" (given the honorary status of "current truth", etc)?

We can only make out best guesses at what might be best, and if we are humble and ACTUALLY give a shit about humanity, we must ignore our "feels" as best we can. Ignore our bleeding "liberal" hearts, and our "conservative" greedy minds, and attach our emotions to the idea of what is best for people hundreds and thousands of years into the future, who may turn out quite unlike what we would want.
Perhaps they will be quite undeserving our compassion ... and perhaps lacking any appreciation of what we must sacrifice.
Perhaps what we must sacrifice is ... our 'humanity".
