yeah, can make sense of the similarity especially The Mars Volta which some of my favourite bands out there. What I like about Circa Survive is the style of vocal, it's almost guitar like vocals and guitars have to be played in the higher octave to accommodate his vocals. Not saying it's unique but it's different than most band of the similar genre. I like band frontman with unique vocal style, Cedric of The Mars Volta is another different beast altogether, I dig those two (Cedric and of course Omar) from their At The Drive In days. I think I listen to TMV Octahedron for more than 1000 times. Fucking masterpiece. Placebo being another band with unique frontman vocal, I think I like the androgynous type, including my taste in women (the model in this video, lulz)

Dude, Mars Volta are one of my favourite bands of all time. I've probably listened to their music more than any other band in my life i'd say. I don't listen to them much these days as my tastes changed a bit, but me and my friends at the time were hugely into them in 2005-2011 sorta range. I saw them live a handful of times. Blew my socks off every time. They're just on another level compared to every other band, especially during the Deloused/Frances tours. I saw a couple of Omar's side project bands too.

ATDI were great too, although Relationship Of Command was the only album of theirs i loved back in the day.

Octahedron was hit and miss for me but Teflon is one of my top 5 songs by them. Really hits the spot.

I know that her tracks are just slowed down and messily rearranged versions of 80s songs but still I very like her music and preffer her versions for some reason. I think it was some aliens channeling through her.

When I told this to some people they looked at me weird. So I wouldn't tell this to anyone who knows me.

@Margaret .. there's nothing about Sade to be embarrassed about. In 1985 my friend Emilio who was dying of Aids favorite musician at that time was Sade, so I bought us a couple of tickets to see her and the 10 man band that she was playing with at Carnegie Hall. They were incredible. Emilio was overjoyed to see her. He died a month later. Seeing her was a happy few hours at the very trying end of his life.

    This is very SADe story.
    You are a gold friend.
I read somewhere that Aphex Twin listened to her and not only he, many other musicians too. Like she was some kind of inspiration.

Emo German boys band for teenager girls. Dude. Shame on you :hahaha:

I don't hide the fact that I like a few Sultana songs.
First one I heard and saw:Kusu Kalkmaz
It was a mystery download back when i would download random stuff from usenet because much of it was unknown to me and I could not figure out what "jsoivrb2hu85.mp3" might mean.
[Listening again i recalled the trouble caused by this- I never fully understood, but via translation it's about the dark aspects of clubs and sex and bad reaction in Turkey (go figure) some radio station shut down for a while and threats to her life. Still today I see there are comments on that video in which I can see wish of death.]
I expanded my tastes a bit that way, and often a decade or more after they were released (often that decade late is still true).
I also found I like a lot of music with lyrics at which I can't cringe because I don't speak the language
In the end, it's not so much the artists but the particular songs that I like ... but some artists produced a bunch i like, such as Ace of Base and Stefanie Sun

    It's a great song.
It was totally misunderstood back in the day. On the surface it seems like the lyrics use sex gratiutously -kusu kalkmaz is slang for "he can't get erect", and there are tons of other sexual innunendos- and it was faced with the usual "they call this music?? this is degeneracy rabblerabblerabble!!" bullshit.

But it was a pretty deep stab at the patriarchal conservative morality that dominated Turkish culture -the morality preached by the same ones who were outraged, unsurprisingly. Some have called it the first openly feminist song in Turkish music.

A song like this probably couldn't even be released today lol.

Ages ago I stopped worrying about guilty pleasures. Life is way too short to worry about what's cool. You do you.

No such thing here. Why would I not tell?

Rick Astley is a king! :bleh:  I also like Paul Young... awesome singer. This one seriously. But Corey Taylor is all around better... love CT.

Liking many different artists is nothing to be ashamed of. Different people have different tastes. Listening to many different styles can only be an asset imo. The more - the better, eh?

So although I'm a big fan of Industrial, EBM, Metal, Alternative, Electronica... weird dark, gothic stuff generally, I also like some other dark, weird, gothic stuff, too. and Blues, Classic, Ambient, Chillout, Drum and Bass... music is awesome!

Big fan of AC/DC, Motorhead and Judas Priest. And Jean-Michel Jarre.

Rick Astley out Morrisseys Morrissey. Get him, Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce, and say Craig Gannon or even Mani to sub for the departed Andy Rourke, play The Smiths catalog to their heart's and wallet's content. Much better than whenever Moz deigns to play a full show without quitting mid-way or not showing up.

I was a teen when Metallica - Kill'em All had come out. I was listening mostly prog rock and metal those days. One day my girl friend gave me a tape to listen to. I do not remember the A side but B side was Air Supply. So I listened to Lost in Love etc for whole weekend, but I have never confessed it to her. Years later when I told her about that tape she denied being into Air Supply. I do not care about genres any more. But I cannot withstand artists "produced" for the masses, and sadly nowadays most of the mainstream music is full of them
