Hi audiosexers, do you know if there's a way to turn off the peak hold of 10 seconds for Ableton 12 channel meters?

I find it extremely annoying and not useful given that there's already the numerical max peak on the channel, I just can't see the added value of having it working like this.

I'm accostumed to work with seeing peaks updated in realtime and not every 10 seconds if going down in volume.

I hope they will change this if there's no other way to it now.

In the ableton data folder in Program data or whatever place in you install it.

I already did it. Unfortunately it's not there but the list is not updated for Live 12 yet, maybe they will make it an option. Thanks for the suggestion

This happens to me too, some FX can get longer time to stop, like reverbs and delays, if you press stop a second time, you stop all the devices, they update and get silent.

This is another issue, specific to Ableton Live 12 and I think it's a "new feature": it holds the peak for 10 seconds but if you go up in voume it updates immediately so it's not a graphic/slow response issue but a peak-hold time of the meter that to me seems unnecessary and I can't understand why it's this way.

    Hi fellow audiosexers,

Since this new version Ableton Live has implemented a peak hold value of 10 seconds for the meters (channel and devices meters) that I find very uncomfortable to work with.

Do you know if there's a way of changing this value by modifying something in some file that contains this instruction?

Opening the Ableton .exe file with notepad I found this: "MeterDefaultHoldTime" but I don't know where to modify this value

thats just the API, i doubt you can change the value for it.

Maybe I just have to live with it but I can't understand why it has to be this way.

I don't understand anything about APIs or programming: do you think there's no way of modifying this parameter anywhere?

you can excess Ableton's API with python yes, its for writing controller scripts and automate things, but it doesnt go the other direction, like actively changing the behaviour of any feature of ableton.

Imagine you want to automate something in Ableton without opening, you could simply write a python code using the API to simply do the steps you want it to do and then add a loop around it with a range and do it for 1000 samples for example.
so you scripted something to save you a lot of time.

The meters feel odd at the beginning i give you that, but the more i use them, the more i find them useful, more than the previous ones.

there are actually 3 relevant strings

    MeterDefaultFallbackRate
    MeterDefaultHoldTime
    MeterUpdateRate

but how to influence them either needs someone amazing at assembly or someone kind from ableton support

Yes, I saw them but I think that the "MeterDefaultHoldTime" is the one I want it to change.

Maybe some audiosexer has the skill to do it?

I didn't have much time to work with the new version but if the majority of users will not complain I'll simply adapt to the new meters and live with it. I'll just use the numerical values that can be instantly reset to make adjustments.

For now though, I find it very frustrating, maybe it's just me

Ableton API is documented, there was some API documentation for Live 11 something. maybe you can find it via a search engine?

    little off/

btw. dunno at all who came up with the idea of not having a mixer in Live, but just so you know, the SSL 360 platform's SL4000E channel strip and the meter are available on a rent-to-own basis (so needs 30$ per month without the bus compressor)

I mention it because otherwise, I wouldn't even use Live.

    or

it uses the Mackie protocol so can control Live, sees the sends, and transport too (start-stop, loop, record from the keyboard), also able to modify the faders of Live etc. fun stuff, the platform itself is free and works without any hardware

Live has a mixer in Session view. SO what do you mean?

I havnt used Session view in over a decade, if somebody asks me, Ableton could just remove it.
