Having a problem with bass: tried several electric bass guitars VSTi, but all of them sound rough, while I need a softly sounding electric bass...so, could EQ matching help, and which one? Maybe other methods exist too?
PS. Later will place here a referent bass sound I need (once I find that sample pack from BFA), and so far this bass sounds very good to me:

EQ Matching is great, but it's not going to turn a weak sounding vst plugin patch into something that sounds like the linked track. Logic has it's own plugin called Match EQ, maybe your daw also has one. Pro-Q3 has matching features, and probably others. But EQ is only going to get you so far with a mediocre virtual instrument.

A different amplifier configuration in terms of distortion.

Are you choosing a Hohner/Höfner violin bass with compression, EQ and some drive/saturation? Maybe it's the actual sound source that is the crux here.
If you find someone who can actually play bass, and hand the player a Höfner violin bass with roundwound strings, I'm sure you will get what you are looking for (that's what I did, as I own that bass and can play it).

i tried izotope's once it didn't work out for me, got better results matching by ear.

Right, Höfner 500/1 :winker:, more bridge than neck PU, I suppose and picked should be the starting point.

I wouldn't have described that as "softly sounding" It has the attack you get with a pick. I remember reading that McCartney preferred a pick when recording.

It's soft in comparison with my VSTi/Kontakt sounds just has a bright accented attack made with picking

I think It depends on what you feed in. I for example use Izotope's match all the time to match different dialogue takes. But this is the same person talking , only with the angle and distance of the mic changing. Also I found out that this is not going to work 100%. So my way of matching 2 takes, is vice versa. I train the matching eq on source A and apply on source B.Then I train the matching Eq on Source B (before the matching applied ) and apply it on source A. this way is like adding bit to B and subtracting a bit from A to make them meet in the middle. I suppose this technique will not work for the OP here

Although the Hofner is Macca's signature instrument, he mainly used a flipped right-handed Fender Jazz for the Band on the Run Lagos sessions.

Evidence from Linda's Polaroid snapshots poster that came with the album:

Ha, bridge PU of J-Bass was my first guess, but I couldn't find any evidence. :like:

I think of the Logic Match EQ more like a "style match" using something like Neutron. Or something like a "House Mastering" preset using the Kirchhoff EQ. "Match EQ" has a nice ring to it compared to "Well, sorta EQ". SORTA should be the name of an upcoming Acustica plugin, but that could easily get confused with all the others.

I already did it on Rickenbacker: below are amp controls and left are the presets (tried almost all of them)

I think Kontakt will of course be your best bet. But did you try IK Modo Bass 2 yet? It sounds very good but i'm thinking it would difficult to get this much realism and nuanced playing; at least without a good amount of work.

Well if you want the exact same tone, then there is no way around having the same strings, pickup and amp plus configuration.
But since no one knows all of this, it's very difficult to achieve.

I heard into this bass that you posted there. and I think Nembrini blackice beta gamma should provide a very similar character.
    A demo doesn't hurt there.

And do not pick or finger too strong - velocity maybe ~50.

Hm, so far I got the best results (in terms of realism) with...make a deep breathe... Hypersonic, yes, that old good one!
Its electric bass/bass slide, it makes a track moving, adding drive! If it had such controls: slide on/off and slide length, then I even didn't start this topic here
