When I knew nothing about how to set compressor and whether other stuff exist, I corrected one of my clean electric guitar recordings in a way that I loaded the track into SpectraLayers pro, listened to the notes that are too high or too low, then selected them in the spectral diagram and adjusted the volume of those notes. I went note by note in the whole track. That is the best quality dynamically corrected stuff I have so far. No artifacts, no unwanted behavior, no confusion about knobs. Everything left as is, only the volume evened out. :D

You can just cut your audio and adjust gain clip by clip.

I have obtained Standardclip. I am looking at the controls, but Oversampling confuses me. It is in the manual, I read what it does, what it is for, yet I am uncertain about which setting would be optimal for me. Moreover besides choosing the Oversampling rate, the function itself has a much more detailed list of adjustment options in the Settings.

    This one as well: [IMG]
One of the best comp pedals I've tried. It's little brother -- the PC-2A -- is also great. Effectrode also makes the best blackface Fender preamp pedal there is, the Blackbird.

If you want a opto comp pedal that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, Ampeg's Opto Comp pedal is also really nice.

Just learn about oversampling, aliasing/fold-over, etc and it will make much more sense. For bass, which is usually lowpassed due to little info in the highs, you don't have to worry too much about oversampling per se.

And the other thing that is not clear to me, the manual says: "linear-phase (adds latency to the signal". But this latency occurs how? For example if it causes latency on the track I put the plugin on, that latency can be heard on the playback as well, or it only causes issues only when Software Monitoring that track during recording?

The lowest that get you rid of aliasing, or the highest possible, depending on processing power available.
On a bass, you will easily hear if aliasing occurs. It will sound like a very high tonal noise that goes down in frequency as the bass note goes up (also in frequency). I trust that you read what aliasing is, there's no need to explain that?
You're essentially putting a linear-phase low-pass filter at 21kHz on your plugin. The rest depends on how your DAW compensates for plugin latency. On a basic level, every DAW with PDC (plugin delay compensation) looks at total combined latency reported by every plugin on every track and bus, and adds additional latency where needed, so that every layer of your routing is delayed by the same amount and the output is synchronous. So, or a simple example, if you have one track with latency of say 200 samples, one track with latency of 350 samples and other tracks with no latency, it will add 350 samples of delay to all the latency-free tracks, add 150 samples to a 200-samples one, and leave the 350-samples one as it is.
Then let's say they go to one of two busses, one of which has further 300 samples of latency and another one only 50. PDC will add 250 samples of delay to the 50-samples bus.
Then let's say you accidentally routed one of the latency-free tracks directly to the master. Instead of just 350 samples of compensation, it will then receive the whole 650, so it arrives at the master bus at the same time its peers processed through two busses do.
    That's the basic level.
From what I heard, Logic handles it okay as far as the routing is adequate and there are no latency loops with weird sends and whatnot.

This is what I was interested in. If it is that kind of latency, my DAW will solve that. I thought it is a kind of permanent latency what will occur on playback and export as well, similarly to a phase issue, etc. but I see it is not the case.

I tried the Standarclip plugin but I got very bad results. The signal gets distorted very easily, even on low settings. It is not like in case of the tutorial videos on Youtube where they show you how to clip the drum transients. With this bass it reacts very agressively, even if I set soft clipping.

If that's too much to your taste then a limiter or a compressor is your way to go.

Yes, very likely I will stick to those other two methods.

Thank you very much for your advices, now with the suggested compressor method my mix sounds much better!
