I have a USB-B connection coming from an area of my desk that connects to my DJ decks (Pioneer XDJ-RX3). It is a USB-A to USB-B cable from the port on the back of my desktop and the USB-B is as the first connection below, the one often called "the printer cable type connection", being the more square USB socket. I sometimes switch this between my DJ decks and other devices as I only ever use one at a time, and saves me running multiple cables (I hate clutter!) and only uses one USB port on the desktop computer.

However, I now have a USB-C MIDI device (PreSonus Atom SQ) I'd like to use in that area of my desk too. Therefore, I'm looking for a simple USB-B to USB-C adapter, be it a small connector adapter of the fly out short cable type adapters. However, I can't seem to find either, without buying the entire cable. Is there any technical limitation preventing this conversion or something, which is why there are no adapter?!

Any ideas where I may be able to get one?

Think about the problem in reverse, go from USB C to B

Doesn't work, wrong connections (male/female).

 

USB B converter in the rear of the device that requires it, then a USB C cable can be used to connect to either the adaptor or the other device.
This essentially makes the device that requires USB B accept a USB C cable

What am I missing here?

 

I can't to that as it's regular USB-A port on the desktop back panel. So currently has USB-A from back to desktop to a USB-B connector, into my DJ decks. Trying to make that USB-B connector more versatile to connect to a USB-C connect to on my Atom SQ on demand.

The adapter you linked requires USB-C on back of desktop to essentially be a USB-C cable to plug this adapter onto the end of..

 

You are presuming the desktop end is a USB-C connector. It is not. It is a USB-A connector, as it standard on most desktops.

 

I am basically looking for something like this ultimately, but instead of being a USB-A (rectangle) female connector, it would be a USB-B (square) female connector for the connector in the original post to plug into.

 

Potentially, as the USB-B blocks can be bulky and heavy. I'd assume they'd do fly-out type ones though, similar to above pic, and if long enough then there's no additional weight strain.

Totally the wrong thing

The desktop has a USB-A port. There is a cable that comes from there to my desk, which has a USB-B port on the end.

The USB-B is what plugs into a couple of pieces of equipment, such as my DJ decks and my Native Instruments keyboard.

However, I was to adapt the end of that cable to also use the same cable for my USB-C device.

Therefore, it needs to have a USB-B female end to covert a USB-B male end of a cable into a USB-C male cable.

 

Get somebody to make you a cable (I hate adaptors!)

any keyboard that has a USB interface, always add an adaptor, usually a left hand or right hand, and tape the the lead to the back of the device so it won't flop around. I recommend vinyl electrical tape.
The adpator lead will take the strain of being plugged and unplugged and it will eventually fail, not the usb port on your device.

I've repaired several USB device I've purchased cheap because of bad usb interface, usually a quick bit of soldering, but once fixed, I add the lead because all these things are engineered by design to fail so you'll pony up more bucks for new crap. Just fix the point of failure and avoid it on newly purchased devices by adding adapters.

The cable is currently a hard-wired and moulded USB A to USB B cable, USB B being the common rectangular USB A connector on one end the the square block type USB B connector shown in the original post on the other end.

I also have a USB C device. Therefore, I need to convert the existing and hard-wired USB B end of the existing cable to an adaptable USB C end. I can then leave my DJ decks connected, and when I need to, remove the cable from the DJ decks and change the cable end, using the adapter, for plugging into the Atom SQ (the USB C device).

 

I made an account just to comment how terribly explained the issue was. That's why noone has been able to offer any solutions. You should've started with the part of USB-A being hard-wired.
