The only thing left to do is burn some sage in your room to help rid it of the evil spirit controlling the panning of your sound card. If that doesn't do the trick, you must buy new headphones, new monitors, and dare I say...get a new interface and do a fresh reinstall of Windows to begin it all from scratch. You could start a Go Fund Me. I'd kick in 5 bucks in solidarity, give you a hug if we ever met in person and play you a Ministry song on my guitar to help lighten up your spirit..

Best of luck with this confounding issue.

I thought I had the answer to your problem, but the more I read of people's suggestions that have not made a difference, the less confident I am, so I'm going back to re-read the whole thread, and then see if I can offer any other advice.

See you in a couple of days.. I mean minutes.

I'll tell you what my initial thoughts are and go from there.

I had something very similar happen to me in the car. The right channel was not producing any sound out of any speaker. That turned out to be a wire had come out, thus rendering the whole channel useless.. took me a while to find the short.. but anyway.. let's go back and read it.

Here is what I'd do if it were me:-

    1) Unplug all cables, (noting exactly where they go) Make sure they are dust free and reconnect.
    2) You said you tried an MP3 player that worked ok, but did you pan it left/right to see if that was shorting too?
    3) Uninstall that Saffire Software/ Reinstall

If none of that works? I'd get my boots on and threaten to give the computer a right good kicking.. but that's just me :/

    Go to your mixer /

r/chick on the speaker icon and select 'playback devices'

highlight the default device - click properties then balance

that will allow you to pan left or right.

That's for Win7 anyway.. it might be slightly different for your operating system.

so what do we know so far?
Computer is producing stereo sound correct?
all windows computers since 1995 or so are Multimedia Compliant, meaning they have native audio capabilities. ie they can do more than beep.

Plug some speakers or headphones into whatever native facilities are present in your computer either a soundcard, or motherboard ports for audio. Usually they are green colored, because everyone knows audio sounds green according to bill gates.

play a stereo audio file like an mp3 or .wav, in winamp or vlc and see if you hear a stereo playback.
this will indicated if the problem is in your motherboard or o/s or if the problem lies in your application chain or hardware chain.

This is trouble shooting 101, always start at the beginning, meaning is it plugged into the wall and powered up. once this is verified we step up the chain level by level, crossing off each item that is working.

get a piece of paper, write down the steps as you are taking them, and mark down the results so when the internet dies next year, you can reproduce your troublshooting chain without the resources this forum assures you (plus any extra abuse for general principles)

hope this helps, you have to structure your efforts, or you'll chase your ass forever on these issues.

    good luck.

Hmmm. When you play on settings 1 and 3. you get sound both sides. BUT are you getting the mono sound? If so then it applies to both headphones and speakers so we can rule out it being a fault in either of those

I'm inclined to think now it is either settings on the Saffire Software page at fault OR a cabling issue with respect to the interface.

    ok,so my theory is correct.
i had to thnk of a few songs were the stereo info is lost if wired mono
when i djayed in some places and played brown eyed girl the main guitar hook was totally lost because of the way the sound system is wired.
i tried brown eyed girl there on my pc and sure enough the lead guitar bit missing

Yep. As a lot of us suspected, you're somehow converting the signal to mono. either through software, or the way you've connected up the interface..

    once you fix your settings
screen shot them either with software, your camera or your phone.
make a folder on your computer, called "1111", inside make a folder called "handy"
in here make a folder called "my sound setup"
in there put all your pictures. Now label them with something useful. Like MyDAwBrandname.date.jpg,
    Myaudiointerfacename.date.jpg, etc.

now when shit hits the fan you have some reference material you can check your settings against, if you are a fancy pants, you can use Word or an open source word processor and write up a handy diary of what you have and how it is connected and insert the photos in the document,

I recommend acdsee32 ver 2.41 for simple photo labeling and orienting. it will rotate jpgs, and convert pngs to jpeg.
and Quick Image Resize and Crop, it doesn't need to be installed, just unzip it somewhere, and create a shortcut to your desktop. It will not rotate images like ACdsee, but it does let you crop and save images. Acdsee can be used as your default image viewer on windows, it will zoom in and out of images and this can be set as the default activity in the settings - Under OPTIONS, click both actions under IMAGE AUTOSIZE, and all images will be zooomed to proper size to fit in screen without having to click + or - to resize every time. Spacebar will step thru all images in directory, and it can be set to slideshow mode to do it automatically after x number of seconds.

    both are available at

the reason for "1111" is it will show up at the top of your directory listing when you sort by name as windows like numbers better than letters. makes it fast to find it in the jungle of windows directories, especially after a few years of adding things.

p.s once you have your settings saved and organized, copy them to a usb thumb drive so when shit hits the fan you have a backup, to make it easier to get things configured again. Update it when you make changes to your signal chain or add hardware devices..

    good luck.

i would suspect a cabling failure or a windows update. do you have updates turned off?
