For €300 and in Europe.. Harley Benton is hard to beat.

You should probably read up on e-guitars in general before looking into brands. Do you know how many strings you want/need? What pickups you want, etc?

 

Fender's Squier Affinity series.

Yamaha Pacifica series, I don't know the numberings with them these days, but the 110- and 120-series are rock solid instruments, not just for beginners, as you can change the electronics later on if needed.

 

some good replies so far. I take it your a beginner guitarist? do you have a style or artist you are seeking to emulate?
guitars are tools, different tools produce different results. some are more efficeient at blues, some are for metal heads, etc.

think about what you'd like to get out of the guitar, and we have more than enough knowledgable peeps on the board to figure out what would work for you and your budget.

 

This would be a fine answer. But if you're a beginner perhaps those:

 

go to a guitar store and play them, so you can get a feel for the neck in your hands. your finger and hand size matters more than how it looks, though looks are great

 

I second the purchase of a Yamaha Pacific. IMHO, they're much better instruments than Squiers and cheap Ibanez.

Depends on the kind of sound you're after, never tried any Harley Benton, however Squiers are also very cheap and i modded many of those and never had an issue, just check the pickups , a replica of a Tele will sound different than a replica of a strat and both will sound different than a guitar with Humbuckers, what genre do you play?

Also, will you buy online or in a shop? Online might be cheaper but in a shop you can try it an hear if it sounds how u want and if you're comfortable playing, just check the prices online so u dont get fucked too much

 

I have not played any Electric Yamahas but I see Warren Huart pushing them. I have played the Yamaha Acoustic cheapos and they are pretty good. The Fender Player series are not bad either. The issue I have with all Cheap guitars is the hard ware. I bought a Fender player series with a Floyed Rose the Floyd Rose is zinc not Brass or a harder material. I got a Floyd Org and replaced it it's way better now.

 

For that price it's hard to find good hardware, the player series then its 600-700 euros , the pacifica might be a bit less but still above 300, you might try then an Harley Benton or Squier affinity and replace the bridge yourself, you may be able with the budget, there are good Gotoh bridges that are not very expensive, or you may be lucky and find a Schaller for around 100 euro

 

I second the Harley Benton suggestions. Especially Fusion series with HSS pickups or CST series are quite versatile guitars

 

On second thought, just get a diddley bow instead. E-Guitars just turn people into insufferable gear & tone snobs.

 

All great suggestions and -- Squier Bullet, Squier Affinity, Yamaha Pacifica, (mentioned already I think) Squier Classic Vibe, Fender MIM (used) are all common suggestions if you're looking for a strat style guitar (I was looking recently). Oh And Sterling Cutlass SSS.

Obviously used, but also shop used or shop damaged are worth looking at. I picked up a Strat recently with a ding in the side, reduced twice because of it, cheaper than the same model and year on the used market.

If you know someone that can set it up for you (or if you can do it) especially if you buy online that'll save you a bit as well.

 

As mentioned here, Yamaha Pacifica, Squires and lower end Epiphone stuff. Also, check out Monoprice guitars...they are hit and miss. You can also try some used guitars that play great for a good price.

 

It totally depends on MUSIC GENRE.
Example :
-you buy a floating tremolo ... and realize you never use it (and get stabilisation troubles) because you play jazz.
-you buy a fixed bridge ... and realize you can't play surf guitar without tremolo.
-you buy single coils ... and realize you can't play modern metal without at least a bridge humbucker dual coil.
-you buy an HH ... and realize you need single coils to play your favorite funk/blues tracks
...

Frets, how many do i really need ??
24 frets will get you two octaves, but they aren't as common as 22 or 23 fret guitars.
you can usually get by with 22 unless you really like to get next to god, then you're gonna need a 3 fret bend or
a longer neck.

theres a million details about electric guitars. an accoustic guitar is limited somewhat or constrained by the
actual properties that are needed in a build to produce proper sound and longevity. ie shape, bracing,top thickness and materials.

Les Paul made an electric guitar out of a fence post, just to show Gibson it could be done. Obviously electric guitars can be designed and made in just about any shape,scale or size a fella would pay for.

you're gonna need to sort out whats important or feel frustrated or cheated when you get home with whatever you buy.
