Preview for samples

Discussion in 'Software' started by Vincent Price, Feb 14, 2024.

  1. Hello,

I am wondering, is there any software that I can use to preview my samples? Can it be done natively in logic?

    Thanks

Or take a look at Resonic. They also have a Pro Version with specia features. Highly recommended ! //resonic.at

simply use xyplorer with double pane setup. it plays all kind of audio files, when you walk over the files with arrow keys or via mouse.

Ohh thats a crapple question xD

I was going to look at Sound Particles Explorer but didnt like the fact it was forcing me to sign up to them and to log in and without doing this not being ables to use the program.

Do you know what this is for? I dont see why a local sample librarian needs to be forced to be signed in and online, unless I am totally missing something here?

    Thanks

Logic has a dedicated browser on the top right side, you can also use an external one like Sononym, COSMOS or LoopCloud.

I'm guessing that's the reason it's free, they want you locked into their "ecosystem" of stuff with a login etc. Basehead is free from those kinds of antics, it's on sister site too...

    Appreciate the reply.

How do you find Explorer, any good?

I was thinking maybe they would upload all my samples to them or what if 6 months down the road the login website was gone would it stop me accessing the program?

    Cheers

I'm using Resonic Player because I'm a big fan of it since many years, but can't really recommend it right now as the dev went into a rough life patch with illness etc., and updates are pretty nonexistent currently. Been looking to migrate to Basehead or use them both. For me, the key functionality is "looking into" the samples to find bits I need inside, then throw them into Reaper. Basehead has that functionality down to a T, you can even stack up some FX and throw the bit you need already with your custom selected VSTs baked onto it.

The fastest way to prelisten samples under macOS, is using Snapper.
That way you get ultra fast prelistren directly in the Finder

afaik it is Windows only, no?

I've been using Resonic Player for about a year now and really do like it but it is a bit buggy and I find it crashes quite often.

I didnt know that about the dev I hope they get better.

I grabbed Basehead yesterday from the sister site, i'll give that a look tonight.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Same. I bought the Pro license and the latest beta of that crashes a lot on my system. I found that downgrading to the beta before that works a lot better for me (it's the one still without any of the social media icons added, v0.9.3).

Another ugly thing about Resonic is that on Win10 it is somehow conflicting with VLC media player, and if I run them side by side opening vids and audio files, Resonic starts to lag out and takes minutes (!) to respond to opening a file from Explorer. Fortunately if you don't run VLC at the same time, it seems fine.

Logic has a build in browser which also can prelisten samples, even with waveform:

Apple Loops (which can even contain MIDI and the whole channelstrip),
can be prelisted synced, BPM matched and even in the key of the song:

Funny you should say that about VLC and Resonic I get the exact same thing too when running both together.
