i find it quite surprising that it can last so many months unopened but once opened it only lasts a week

why is the milk affected so much just by opening the cap that makes its life drop so much....its not like soda that there's pressure inside or anything

i mean, even fresh milk can last 5-6 days i guess.......so why choose long life milk

 

Long life milk is the opposite of life as it is pasteurized at a very high temperature which renders it a completely dead food and is pretty disgusting to me. It can last on a shelf for so long because the high heat kills any bacteria that can proliferate. When you open the container bacteria is once again introduced.

I am lucky to have an organic dairy farm and as well can buy organic eggs. The milk is raw and tastes delicious. If I can't get to the farm I am also lucky to be able to buy Demeter quality at my local supermarket.

There is no reason to buy that shit milk unless you are storing it in preparation for a catastrophe.

 

Long life milk is disgusting. I've had one sip my whole life and never again. I'd rather drink brackish water than that shit. Fresh from the farm milk for me or water. People who drink long life milk, don't want to drink milk.

 

Agree - long life milk is trash, one would be better off drinking plain water. Same goes for pasteurized, homogenized milk.

In many countries fresh raw milk has been vilified, which is absurd, as this is what our ancestors drank for thousands of years without issue. I would go as far as to say that raw milk is a superfood.

God designed our digestive system for receiving pure, organic foods. Not highly processed rubbish, which unfortunately describes most of our foods today.

 

I have only pasterized milk.
Unpasterized milk is hard to get and expensive.
I rarely go to shopping. Around once a month.
I'm buying 24 cartons pack when is promo.
It can last for 1 year in cold place.
And then I just opening 1 when I need to use it for soup or something, I hide it to fridge, next day I eat with cornflakes and that's it.
When I need milk again I opened the next one and tried to drink within few days.

 

What's the problem with milk here!? O_o

Don't know but - seeing how the population buys everything they are told - I have the feeling that soon someone will also say that insect milk is better than long-life milk

 

Milk spoils when microorganisms procreate in it too quickly. It's a very nourishing environment for them.
Long life milk is sterilized, there are very few living microorganisms in there. When you open it, it stops being sterile, cause the air is full of microorganisms and they get inside. So the milk starts getting spoiled again.

A gene that allows an adult human to digest milk isn't even thousands of years old. Drinking milk as a whole isn't natural to Homo Sapiens Sapiens, we have slowly (actually it's lightning-speed in evolutionary scale) developed to be able to do so.
And not everybody can digest it to this day.
In short, you're not correct, but it doesn't mean sterilized milk tastes better.

The alleged nutritional virtues of unpasteurized milk have not been demonstrated, but it does multiply the chances of contracting serious diseases. Brucellosis , which causes fever and fainting; diphtheria , anthrax , typhoid and foot-and-mouth fevers. Keep going there are too much people in the world. Milk is perfect for patogens. Preserved food is not the same as raw food, of course. Autopreserved raw food as honey, wine and cheese, is the best.

 

Milk is for baby cows, baby sheep, baby goats etc... Stop stealing food out of the mouth of babies, drink something else unless your mother is still around and fills a cup for you everyday from your private stock.

Heat kills the enzymes in milk as well as destroys Vitamin A. Again, lots of nonsense to say otherwise. Just stop.

What about reading wikipedia about pasteurization - which is around since 200 or so years and made milk drinking for people sane? The problem with people who drink too much "natural" cow milk is that they smell awful. Maybe long life milk fixes this too.

I would rather drink something else, especially when a cow is killed by exhaustion of how much is drained 24/7.
The food industry is covered with images of children smiling and drinking milk, but the reality is the opposite. It does not supply any calcium to humans, which is just the tip of the iceberg.
Do some research and you will be shocked with the reality of the milk industry.

Do you not realize that pasteurization, homogenization, and these other processes destroy the enzymes (such as lactase) that help us digest milk? I know people with lactose intolerance who can "tolerate" raw milk much more easily.

Before you claim "you're incorrect", perhaps research a matter properly.

 

Some very good points made here. Let me just add that, although it contains calcium, cow milk isn't such a good source of calcium for humans as the milk industry and the medical establishment would like you to believe, but it's a premium source of antibiotics, growth hormones and pesticides.

Antibiotics are routinely administered to healthy farm animals not to cure, but to prevent diseases, and thus financial losses for farmers.

Growth hormones help to get bigger animals sooner.

The crops grown for animal food are much less regulated and controlled than those for humans, and heavy use of pesticides is a given. A milk cow eats impressive quantities of such food during its lifetime. A lot of chemicals get released through milk.

 

These aren't our ancerstors tho, these are us. And they drink cow milk for only about 3000 years tops, this is nothing.

I do not care, if I'm being honest. I'm lactose intolerant and my feckin grandma insisted that I drink a glass of milk a day for as long as she could control things, so I'd ban milk if I could. Milk is disgusting.

On top of that, I don't see how this is relevant at all. I said that out ancestors didn't drink milk, that's all. Never said that long life milk is the same as the actual milk, never implied that.

That's the problem now, drinking milk is a political question.
And internet is not the crysol of culture and learn for everyone. Is the idiocrazy of all getting idiots, questioning if the earth is flat again.

It is not a joke, I have taken raw milk too, a friend of mine milks the cow with his hands, before she cleans the moms. And I can agree on the heat destroying some nutrients, but if you drink pure raw milk, you have to know the risks involved.
