I can't find any information on this, maybe I am searching the wrong terms.

What are some tools for quickly viewing or finding the VST ID and information of a .dll (vst2 or vst3) and be able to change the ID quickly?

    Also what is this?

What do you actually need to do that for? There may be a better solution.

I looked for something like that, but the most I could find is that you CAN open the VST in a Hexadecimal Editor, find it, then modify it and see if it works.

It might just mess up the VST, though.

My suspicion is that it loads them using strange names, but there's usually a way to change how whatever DAW/etc . . . organizes them when they're loaded.

Some VSTs have completely different developer names VS. plugin names VS. folder tree hierarchies when you load them.

What to search for in Hex?

I used vst3 versions of some plugins in a lot of old projects, but they are giving problems and I think the vst2 has different ID for this one. I want to make it so my DAW can recognize vst2 in place of vst3 by ID, but I don't know if that is possible.
I want to improve project stability but also keep my settings from before.

I believe all the parameters are the same but the ID is not.

Plogue Bidule keeps them separate for me, though it has separate cache files for the different directories. Bidule can be loaded as a VST itself.

There's also that, it's just a VST that loads other VSTs, you might be better off using that, you open it, then direct it manually to the VST you want to load.

I was unclear what to look for in the Hex Editor, that's why I never bothered. Bidule has a thing that you can load called the Palette that makes them pretty easy to sort through.

Like I have VST2 and VST3 versions of TAL vocoder and TAL Sampler and it differentiates just fine.

I have a problem with a plugin from the sister site, was using it for a long time, then i updated the plugin from another team and those projects with the previous versions couldn't load the plugin, it had a different name in the plugins list. Changing the name didn't help, so i guess it's a matter of changing the plugin id somehow.

Hmm… Itnteresting. It could be the solution for my problem. Melodyne 4 doesn’t work in Windows 11. Melodyne 5 work well but it can’t replace M4 in my old projects in Ableton. Apart from that M4 was VST2 and M5 is VST3, the ID change could help the situation.
