This is like some kind of apology tour for prior threads begging for plugins via thinly veiled warez requests. Oh, and all of the software you actually know how to use is not good enough for me. Hit the lottery but unfortunately that lady Vivienne Westwood who made those cool hats Pharell used to wear has died. Going to load up the iLok instead.

Makes you miss a good Foster thread at this rate.

If you can't make music with the stuff that's available already, then the plugin's/gear is not the issue. You can make tons of different music with free plugins, like Spitfire LABS, Ample Lite Series, BBC SO Discover, SSD Free, Komplete Start (Kontakt Player), Dexed/Synth1/Vital, Sforzando, Decent Sampler + Pianobook, Reaplugs, Neural Amp Modeler. The problem is the mentality that other plugins will make your music better, which might be true in some cases, but in most cases just learning the plugins you do have access to will make your productions better than just having a bunch of expensive plugins at your disposal.

Seriously? What kind of nonsense is that? I'm not patronizing anyone. I'm just pointing out some ways to generate a side income.

If I publish a software product in which I have invested 70 hours of work, including research into the basics of how to code, and earn 1000-2000€ per year with this product, it is a losing proposition for me. I'm not doing it for the money anyway. For someone for whom €2000 is a fifth of their net annual income, on the other hand, it is a great enrichment. Your "most people can't change anything about their financial situation... survivorship bias... statistics... blah blah" is nonsense. The opposite is the case. They win because each extra income has a higher real value.

So, is/was it luck? No. I saw a gap and filled it.
Do you know what people who create alternative skins for plugins or DAWs earn if they market their product reasonably well and provide a donation link? If you're not a design talent, market the skin to people with visual impairments. Works great!

You can't seriously claim that it's a good idea to make people feel powerless. Telling them you can't change anything anyway. You shouldn't make unrealistic promises. But you can always change something. Even if you've lost everything or never had anything.

I had 25 years of what would be considered a mid- high level of success by a lot of standards and looking back on it it seems like a 25-year waste of time. It really is all relative.

    There's always one.

    I'm intrigued. Care to elaborate?

destiny weights a real deal, 72,65% of success. But when you're in the matrix is different and percentages change.

@Albert Seguir @Trurl thats actually a song!! i thought you guys would get the refference!! "Remember the Name - Fort Minor"

What a big IF right there. That's how the survivorship bias work. We only see the few that are making some money, ourselves included if that's the case, and not the overwhelming majority that doing exactly the same that you told, or even a lot more, aren't. There is no better way to make people feel powerless that to tell them that if they are not making some money is somehow their fault for not being doing this or that. They will think that there is something wrong about them for not trying "hard enough" instead of realizing that the reality is that there are a massive amount of factors that are out of our control, success included, and take action with that fact in mind. Glad you saw a gap and filled it.

Do you know what keeps people down? Yes? Do you? I don't. At least not with absolute certainty. I can make assumptions based on empirical observations. Just like the study you cited does. My observation is different and is as follows:
There are 2 main things that keep people down.
The first is that people are treated like donkeys. Tie a carrot around their nose that they can never reach and tell them that they only have to chase the carrot long enough to reach it.
The second is that people are told that they can't change their situation anyway, because success depends on luck and luck can't be controlled.

Do you know what is often described as luck? When two people run into each other in the right place at the right time and at least one of them benefits from it. Well, people often run into each other. All the time, to be precise. This has nothing to do with luck, it's a constant. Opportunities also arise all the time. Recognizing and taking advantage of an opportunity has nothing to do with luck. It is a skill. You can learn it. Do you know what makes successful people successful? Yes, they seize opportunities. Most do it, contrary to what many believe, to mutual benefit.

First of all, the IF is not that big. Make an offer, not an aggressive persuasion strategy. Be honest, be open, be friendly and courteous. Be generous and you will get generosity back.

I'm not going to sell a homeless person that they could become a multimillionaire if they move to LA and just show up at enough castings. Chances are they won't be successful. Surprise! It's a carrot.

I just tell a person with access to the internet who complains that there are no jobs in their country that you can actually earn good money in the rest of the world via the internet if you think about what others might need and giving it away aksing for donations or gifts. Of course, I don’t know, but there’s a chance that the person has not considered this opportunity so far, or has estimated the chances of success as too low to even try it. I have no problem investing 5€, 10€ or even 20€ here and there in random projects if I think the idea is cool and can see that heart and soul is going into it. Even, if I can’t derive any advantage for myself from a donation. And that's exactly what I regularly get back with my own small hobby projects. I see the same with many others who put their heart and soul into their small projects. People thank me and them with monetary attention.

I truly believe anyone, literally anyone, can become rich if they apply themselves.

I also believe there's a 95% chance in the process you will work so hard and single mindedly you'll have no friends or family, you'll be stressed and have ulcers, and people will hate you. That, or you did illegal shit and wound up in jail. The real trick is to become successful and actually enjoy life along the way.

No, it was definitely Adobe Audition. I had remembered incorrectly for a while, thinking I had used Cool Edit back then, but I found the old packaging around 2 years ago ;)
Actually, it hardly makes a difference. It was more or less the same program.

While many plugins are interesting, time saving, or specific to a particular thing/niche, the GAS is real, and unnecessary most of the time. These days, your DAW of choice comes with more than enough to create without looking elsewhere - and not a dongle in sight.
