When I read that Microsoft was warning for malware being spread right after the stop of support, it slipped my mind that killer malware is the key to get every last person to update to win 7 or 8
being the architect of xp that is something a big company as microsoft can't resist, they might just 'leak' some detailed info about back-doors

So the people being tough saying that they didn't update anyways will be in for a suprise

I support TS, runnin in a VM is de best option. maybe some do-not-track me kinda linux would be my first choice, just to bug the nsa.

It's just that malware taking advantage of flaws in winXP remaining to be discovered WILL happen.
And Microsoft won't fix these.

Functionnally, your current software will be working. But you won't be able to update (you can try, but it's a hit or miss).
W7 does bring a lot of new stuff, and it costs to 3rd party to mantain more development trees.
So audio soft developper will abandon it (not right by tomorrow though).

It's no biggie : some active studio are still relying on G5 macpro, and they are still in the business.
If it's an audio only computer, and you're happy with your software, stick to it.
If you want to stack up up-to-date VSTs : upgrade.
If the computer go online a lot : consider an upgrade.

 

Yes, you can. The only problem is that you lock yourself out of newer technology like an increase on Ram, CPU, Motherboard, etc..
Main reason because the manufacture don't support win 95/98 or xp. I mean if you want an old win xp that takes 5 minutes to load up an image to watch p0rn. You could keep doing that. Good old times.. (specially when the pic freeze and had to refresh)

Yes. They did that but they were aiming to make an after touch OS. It's actually practical if you have a monitor with touchscreen. You can pretty much surf the web or do shyt without having to use a keyboard or mouse. And that can actually be helpful on Audio design but it will probably take a few more years for a flawless touchscreen DAW. i think FL studio working on something like that.

Also, You can just switch the settings for that "menu window" or w.e its call to not show up. Instead the computer will start just like windows 7. You will pretty much be using windows 8 as it was windows 7. Only problem is the compatibility with older software/hardware.

Well, I understand that they have their own special software. I don't understand why a high security company would use an old OS. I mean it might be easier to rebuilt XP and make it work customize but i think other OS would provide a more secure environment. I wouldn't trust my life work as a programmer to be protect by a team that runs Windows XP. Irony

P.s. I'm not sure if it's a security company such as bodyguard or software security. Either way, i wouldn't trust their geek department getting backdoor while an assault happens or leaking information about their "operations". Then again.. there's always gonna be that one person that cracks on XXX software no matter what (Ask organizations like FBI, CIA and pentagon who had been infiltrate it by hackers)

I don't understand why everyone portrays Windows as an evil corporation that chase us to rip off our wallets. The company has millions that it could hardly care if the xp users upgrade or not. They have contracts with so many companies like HP, ASUS, IBM, TOSHIBA, Etc.. They already have secure sales on windows 9 even at release.

People only have 2 options. Linux or Mac. People with a lack of computer knowledge would hardly pick linux. Mac is probably their biggest threat but they won't beat them with forcing xp users to upgrade.

The only reason of not supporting a software that is over 10 years old. Is that it cost money that could be use on something more efficient. Hell, I rather have them spend money on how to make a better XBOX than improving XP.

P.S. Other than buying my laptop/pc i never paid any money to windows.(Not including AoM/AoE) They release free updates and keep older versions working. Mac on the other hand, you better keep buying the newest version or your fk. Ask all the users ranting about Logic.
