    Hey,

about a year and a half ago my gpu stopped working and I switched to internal graphics. It worked fine so far but now I see myself confronted with more and more problems. First nexus gui didn’t respond on win7, now kirchhoff eq gui crashing every daw I tried. And I’m sure there’s more to come.
i was able to resolve that on windows 10 by installing the driver for the internal graphics but on win7 this won’t work, as there is no driver for win7 because 8th generation intel isn’t supported.
i already googled a lot and found out that people were getting it to work by hacking the installer. But I’m not experienced enough to do that.
Is there a simple way, some kind of universal graphics driver that will work with my chipset? I don’t need graphics for more than my audio workflow. So I don’t care if it’s not giving me optimal performance. I just want to get rid of the crashes.

and if not, what would be a cheap gpu that has win 7 and win 10 drivers and would resolve my problems. I really don’t want to spend a lot of money on it. I want to be able to have all my plugins gui‘s working and use 2 monitors. That’s all I need.

    thank you in advance

Did you already try this below? Also, do you have a link to the installer hack you mention?

Note Your computer manufacturer might have customized drivers and software to enable or alter features, or provide improved operation on your computer. Contact the manufacturer for the latest updates and technical support information. If you can no longer get driver support from your computer manufacturer, you can download generic Intel drivers.

First of all, thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately there's no manufacturer. it's a custom built pc running on an Asus Prime z370-p Mainboard with the i7-8700k cpu.

    Sure https://www.techinferno.com/index.p...rash-in-video-play-back-3d-function-normally/
that's the hack i'm talking about.

So far i haven't tried anything but using the win 10 installer which didn't work. I didn't wanna take pointless action and mess stuff up. I tried to find intel win7 universal drivers but it always took me to drivers for 3rd, 4th and 6th generation intel and i thought i'd ask here before.
Should i try it with the intel generic drivers, you linked me to?

I don't understand why do you stick with Windows 7 then...

something like nVidia GT(X) 10*th series would be reasonably cheap trouble-free option, supporting both W7 and W10 (and even W11)
    1030 for ultra-low budget, 1050-1060 for mind-end, 1080Ti for high-end (probably not worth it)

Those drivers are what you asked for. I haven't checked the "hack" install, i'm on a mac. but I think there are lots of windows 7 people who could probably help you. a graphics driver shouldn't be that difficult, and you say other people have already done it. I'd rather do that than buy a part I don't even want. it looks like that intel application figures it out for you, on no longer supported machines.

You could try installing the driver that Snappy Driver Installer (SDI) tells you. This is my go to driver installing program/routine as I don't wanna spend hours looking for Windows drivers like I used to for decades. SDI rocks!

I'm sure SDI will find you a suitable W7 driver for UHD Graphics 630 in your Intel 8xxx. It will suggestt you a suitable driver that you don't have to install, of course. It's a really nice program maintained by some very enthusiastic people.

Please reply if SDI helped or not. I'm interested in things like that.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

i started with win 10 on this pc but it didn't give me the performance win 7 gave me. it took a lot of effort to get win 7 up and running on this system. I'm already thinking about switching as i have win 10 already installed on another drive but still i get random cpu spikes that i dont have on win 7. latencymon says my system is suitable but the performance is just not as good as on win7. i'm on 21H2. I'm already thinking about a fresh win 10 install on that drive but it would cost me so much time installing everything again and optimizing the system. what is currently the best win 10 version for audio production and do you think updating would make sense or should i opt for a fresh install?

Thank you, i hope you're right. I would also prefer to use the internal graphics instead of buying another gpu. i will try that if snappy driver installer fails me.
Thank you. That's what i'm gonna do first now. sounds like its exactly what i need right now.
I will try that now and inform you about the outcome.

@ThugLife although latencymon is useful, I wouln't take it too seriously,
DPC latency is mainly caused by network stack hiccups (caused by various updates and network activity) and storage/disk stack hiccups (caused by various background telemetry and indexing) - you can mitigate/minimize those both by having proper drivers, and adjusting/disabling windows updates, firewalling other apps, adjusting/disabling windows search and indexing, adjusting/disabling windows defender or othe antivirus you use,
if you want Windows 10, then latest 22H2 is only reasonable choice (unless you'd have very specific conmpatibility needs), it makes no sense to use anything older as it's very likely problems got fixed in later builds,
fresh install is always "cleaner" than upgrade, but it depends how much software and data you have to migrate,
since you have 8th gen Intel, Windows 11 could be a viable option too, but since you've been leaning towards Windows 7, I don't think jumping straight onto W11 would be smooth journey

ps: speaking of igpu/gpu, by having dedicated graphics card you will free up your RAM and CPU, if it's worth is questionable and depends on your use case

the "hack" is just drivers and registry entries. reboot to safe mode to replace file that is no longer in use.

But this makes me wonder, why did the original GPU just "stop working" in the first place. There is already one in the machine. drivers, windows update?

    thank you

well that's exactly why i keep the whole machine offline. i have no antivirus installed, blocked defender, blocked the built in real time anti virus and so on. i don't remember exactly what i did because this was way back in 2018 or 19. but i did a lot of tweaks to that system but never got the performance i wanted.
ok great, i just wasn't sure because i once read 21H2 was actually a very good update audiowise and i didn't know if things improved with 22H2 or got worse.
maybe i'll bite the bullet and start all over again. i can leave my working win7 on the other drive anyways.
well i wouldn't have a problem with going the 11 route. I just don't wanna run into the same problems i had with earlier builds of w10. if 11 runs smoothly and is great with audio, i'm all in. all i want is a stable os that makes the best out of my cpu and ram.
but as i read my win 7 key won't work like it did with win 10 right? so i'd have to get another one first.
The only thing important for me is, that i don't wanna waste my time installing and tweaking a system again, just to find out it doesn't give me the same performance as win7 :)

and yes, that was exactly the reason why i bought the gpu, when i built that pc. it was an outdated gpu, it wasn't meant to perform well with games or anything, i just wanted to relieve the cpu and ram but now that it failed on me, i'll have to deal with the internal graphics, at least for a while.

ok well, that's not longer neccessary. SDI did the job and installed the right driver for me. now everything works like it should. But thank you anyways.
I have no idea. i had to transport my PC to another location. there it still worked. but when i came back and plugged everything in, i had a blackscreen and "no input signal". i tried it several times, then i gave up. i really have no idea.

Thank you my friend, that's exactly the driver i needed. But SDI already installed it for me. I downloaded it anyway for backup reasons. Thank you so much

    @SineWave
Thank you so much, SDI did the trick, i already tested it. No crash with Kirchhoff eq and also nexus 4 is now working. Thank you all, i love this forum and its members.

Now who am I gonna give my Best Answer rating? No matter who i give it to, i feel bad for the others that helped me. I wish I could mark all your answers as Best Answer.

No problem, mate. I'm glad to be of help and your OS works properly again. Cheers!

Just one thing regarding the GPU: if you're not gaming, 3D designing, or editing videos professionally (DaVinci, Premiere), the onboard Intel GPU is perfectly fine and won't give you any problems like audio crackling, interrupts and similar. Any HD or UHD Intel or AMD Vega is perfectly fine for DAWs, even more than fine. :)

The GPUs in the newer Intel and especially AMD CPUs are perfectly fine for all these more demanding tasks, too. I'm talking about UHD 750/770 and AMD Vega in AMD 5xxx and 7xxx onboard GPUs. At this point I find it hard to recommend discrete GPUs for anything but hard core gaming and virtual reality stuff. Rather put that money into a stronger CPU, more SSDs, or a really good and quiet power supply.

oh yes you are, I appreciate you :mates:

that’s really good news. I really didn’t wanna spend a lot on a new gpu, I just don’t need it, I will never run a video game or something like that on it. It will stay offline forever except for updating and after updating, I keep cutting the connection. Reading that is very relieving.

thank you for your help, time and for pointing this out :)
