She is the starlet appointed by the market to distract us from what's real, urgent and important. Every couple of years or so they create one. So far, it has been working wonders for them.

I'm not going to talk about conspiracies or politics about her and give just my musical opinion.

I searched on yt for Swift best/greatest hits and honestly, after many years of her presence in music business, and on 28 singles proposed I recognized only 2:
Blank Spaces
Shake it Off
All the other singles were unkown to me or bypassed by listening (didn't "pierce").

Now I did the same for Morissette (18 clips), 8 recognized
Cyndi Lauper, 7 on 12
Madonna on about 90 singles (on wiki) I estimate about 10 not recognized.

So my guess is that beside personal taste, modern socials and marketing have huge impact on popularity, instead in my personal taste Swift does not "pierce" enough.

I follow weekly charts, and usually when there is a new entry I listen, but if within 30 secs does not "pierce", I discard it.

 

Some of her music is ok, but most of it is made for a specific market.

Her music's not my thing but she makes a lot of people happy and pisses off the right politicians, so she's okay in my book.

Off-topic, but it’s such a shame what she has done to herself. She still looked good (like herself!) around 2015 (less than ten years ago), and had she aged gracefully, she would’ve been just fine. She was so enticing during the early 90’s heyday. It doesn’t help that she has also apparently lost her mind.
