Hi all,
I downloaded Kickstart 2 (Windows) and everything worked just fine but now when I open it it just mutes the track... I tried reinstalling it multiple times but now it doesn't even ask for the license file and the same thing happens. I tried looking for an answer but I didn't see anybody who've encountered the same problem as me. Could anyone help me out?

I just had the same issue. I reinstalled it and added the following addresses to the hosts file:
127.0.0.1 www.cableguys.com
0.0.0.1 www.cableguys.com
0.0.0.0 cableguys.com

 

I did all of that plus a clean uninstall and the issue still persists. Something odd is going on with the plugin now, especially since it's all started to happen to everyone around the same time

 

If there was a "time bomb" missed by whoever released it, it could happen for everyone at once. Maybe it is related to your calendar date.
No problem on 2.0 Mac. I think there was a 2.0.1 or .2 which was taken down due to a problem. I never knew so many people use it.

 

I'm also using the 2.0 MAC version. Blocked all access via host files so not sure why the issue is happening now. I've had the plugin for over a year now and never had any issues....

 

Do you have it and your DAW firewalled? I use the Mac system firewall for applications, and LuLu (or little snitch) for plugins.

You have cableguys.com blocked via hosts? I actually downloaded a demo of Shaperbox3 earlier, and even after changing that line in my hosts file, I still had to disable my firewall so Logic/Shaperbox would be able to download the presets.

Are you on Intel Mac, what MacOS version? Try changing your system date, maybe. Going back to v1 might be worth trying just to see what would happen. Do you have a cleaner app like BuhoCleaner or UninstallPKG? Something to remove all trace of it... I'm reaching on this one.

Did you download the demo version and try it also? Try blocking his websites also. www.kickstart-plugin.com and www.nickyromero.com . Not sure why that would matter all of a sudden. Did you update anything with your DAW?

Yup. Running FL Studio 21 and have it blocked via the Mac firewall. Did not update the DAW recently. I have little snitch but how do you block the actual kickstart plugin / vst file?
Currently on Mac M1 Monterey OS and I used Audio Plugin Installer to remove all traces of the plugin. Appreciate the support!

oh, well in Little Snitch I believe you have to block any DAW or other Plugin Host you have installed. It's been a while since I used LS. I don't think you can block specific plugins in LS. I am using LuLu, and you can create Rules for individual plugin files.

Maybe the problem stems from you using VST3 format plugins in FL? Did you maybe reinstall a new version of FL and forget to block FL inside your firewall again? Also, re-block your entire VST/VST3 plugins folder. LuLu also lets you do it that way. I am using AU plugins in Logic, maybe that is an issue.

But doesn't make a lot of sense why it would have worked fine for so long before you hit this problem.

 

Somebody please help with this plugin. I tried everything that was suggested in this forum till date. Nothing worked

I try all solutions of this post, but, don't work... - MAC OS M1

 

If you’re typing /ect like in your post here then that’s the issue, it should be /etc

/etc is inside the /private directory. An easy way to make sure you're opening the correct location is: open Finder, click Go>Go To Folder... and type /private/etc, then press Return.

Find the hosts file. Open Terminal and type sudo nano (notice the typed space after "nano"), then drag the hosts file into Terminal (it should now say sudo nano /private/etc/hosts) and press Return.

 

Finally, I found the solution for Mac users with the help of ChatGPT. (I use a Mac M1 + Ableton Live)



Steps to Fix the Issue:

1. Completely Remove Kickstart/Cableguys Using Terminal:

sudo find / -iname "*kickstart*" 2>/dev/null && sudo find / -iname "*kickstart*" -exec rm -rf {} \; 2>/dev/null

2. Clear Ableton Cache:

sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/* && sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Ableton/Cache/* && sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/*

3. Clear Ableton Preferences Manually:

Go to: /Users/your-username/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 12.1.1 and delete only the .txt files that contain “kickstart” in the preferences.

4. Block Internet Access:

a. Edit the /etc/hosts file: sudo vi /etc/hosts (Press i to enter edit mode)

b. Add the following lines:
0.0.0.0 cableguys.com
127.0.0.1 https://www.cableguys.com/
127.0.0.1 www.cableguys.com
127.0.0.1 cableguys.com
127.0.0.1 https://cableguys.com/
127.0.0.1 https://www.cableguys.com
127.0.0.1 kickstart-plugin.com
127.0.0.1 www.kickstart-plugin.com
127.0.0.1 https://kickstart-plugin.com
127.0.0.1 https://www.kickstart-plugin.com

c. Flush DNS Cache: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache && sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

d. Restart network connection: sudo ifconfig en0 down && sudo ifconfig en0 up

e. Block Ableton’s Internet Access using LuLu and Little Snitch (In LuLu, also block Ableton’s access from its folder).

f. Restart your Mac!

5. Reinstall Kickstart Plugin. During installation, select “Custom” and install only VST and VST3 versions.
