    Nice. Was thinking of buying a new PC (and switching from Intel to AMD) during the holidays, but I decided to wait. Hopefully the price of Zen 4 CPUs and mobos will drop sharply when Zen 5 is released!

    Around 8-12 cores. I've very rarely had to mix projects with more than 100-120 tracks, so I believe a good 8-core should do just fine, but it depends on what I can find for the right price.

    i just noticed since i got my notebook with a Ryzen 5 mobile, i havnt turned on my desktop with a ryzen 7 desktop, both are zen3.
    The mobile ryzen runs 4-5 osirus instances just fine underclocked. Its freaking amazing.

    man ryzen 5 mobile is so powerful, its insane. and i came from a shitty underpowered intel i5 with 2 cores (haha this one couldnt even run one osirus instance.)

    now i can only imagine how fast zen5 would be.

    Yeah Ryzen chips are pretty incredible. I'm all on Zen2 (r5 3600 desktop and r9 4900hs laptop) and I have to actively go crazy with granular synths/fx and a bunch of polyphony across dozens of tracks to reach 75% in Ableton. Anything modern will last you for an incredible amount of time these days, it's exciting as hell

    uhhmmm .... what am i missin here ?? I mean , Ive already built two towers for my studio with Ryzen-9 / 7900X - 12-Core
    I do have a zen5 tower as well I use for my media center in me lvgroom ,, but I built that a year and half , ago. Its fast enough ,
    but damn .... my R9's are just blazing !!

    New generations are more efficient with increased performance, so they don't have to work so hard. Your system is still good, so no need to update, but if I was updating now I would go for the latest CPU and use it for a good few years before I replaced it.

    initial price is always worse for any products, but thats normal.

    i also waited 8 months before i bought the ryzen 7 desktop in 2022, otherwise i had bought ryzen 5 or even 3 :D

    time run so fast by.

    i underclock my mobile ryzen, to use passive cooling, since i hate the fan noise. Still it does perform very well.
    I usually freeze very quickly stuff, which im satisfied with, but im just happy the Virus c and virus TI2 emulation works without freezing, just like the real hardware.

    AMD did really a great job with that and if you think back how much AMD sucked like 10 years ago.

    I think the next step might be ARM for windows with a translation layer for x64-x86.

    Zen 5 means the next gen architecture for AMD, 7900x (Raphael) is based on Zen 4 and if your media center is 5xxx-something then it's Zen 3 (either Cezanne or Vermeer). AMD is only slightly better at naming chips than Intel I'm afraid.

    Yeah, the 7-series processors are beasts.

    just upgrade to 7950X3D with a Asus X670E-F.
    really good performance.
    over 100 tracks with lots of AA´s
    is not a problem anymore.
