Curiosity: In what ways do you use "The glue" by Cytomics?

    Just to learn more from another perspectives or "tricks".
    i use it as the standard for mastering ( in this example ), attack 30ms, release 0.1 or 0.2s depends which sound better, adjust the threshold and add some gain. a classic.
    But this have a lot of preset which im exploring.

    So, ¿How do you use it in which genre/songs?

    For glueing yeah... 30 attack, 100 release.... But I've seen a video with another instance of The Glue before this glueing method, and it included veeeery fast attack, squaaaaash. But Mix knob was about between 0 to 25 %.... Maybe 15....

    I think there's nothing too special about Cytomic The Glue, it's good, so does the Ableton stock compressor which is basically the same thing. Cytomic's version of G-Bus have this feature that is unique to itself :

    The Ableton's version has soft-knee clipping option that I never used.

    Okay, it's a bus compressor. THE bus compressor. It compresses the bus, aggressively but with just a lil bit of it, it clamps down all the transients of all the elements of the songs and make them moving together, grab and released together, giving the perception of togetherness or.. glued. It is all lies in the release time. Auto is dual stage RMS + Peak detection which is standard for almost every compressor out there this days because everything is inspired by the G Bus for its legendary status.

    The knee gets harder the higher the ratio amount, I think people are aware of this. If controlling the Peak was the intention use highest ratio (10) but just a bit compression 1db or 1.5db. If want a smooth (well it's not that smooth, it's a G Bus) leveling compression, use ratio 2 but smash it to 4-5db gain reduction on Auto Release but make sure it past 3 so it wont trigger the fast transient detection release too much or else things will start pumping. For track with a lot of transient element or just drum bus duty, ratio 4 is good for it's being medium knee, save some, smash some. For how I use it, if it's bus compression, it's always start with 30ms at earlier stage of the mixing and clamp down to 10ms attack at the end with either 100ms or Auto for release, if 100ms feels too artificial (or fake) pulse movement-wise, Auto it is. Other release times are more for envelope shaping task, which is all the preset in The Glue is all about. Starting the mix with 30ms attack but minimum threshold (no compression just minimal soft-knee peak controlling) and when everything about to starts to feels right, push it to 10ms and adjust the threshold so it's dancing around 1-2db will make things feels a little excited, it's like the substance finally reaching the nerve system, it's happening! The song feels like faster than its real BPM, sometimes it works sometimes it just wont especially when the song's vibe is more chill and relaxed, it will be weird to excite it anyway. It's a trick I think almost everyone knows I guess. Most importantly it gets the mixer himself excited after a long boring hours compressing kicks and snares.

    att/rel = 30ms/Auto, Ratio=2 (softer knee), Threshold minimum is good enough for top down mixing. Mix the song into it.
    att/rel = 10ms/100ms, Ratio=4 (which is medium knee) for making drum bus snappier and add illusion of added energy to it.
    att/rel = 0.3ms or 1ms/100ms + Ratio=10 (Hardest knee on the comp, but technically not super hard knee) Good for Peak Limiting without really being too aggressive about it, 1-2db GR.
    att/rel = 10 or 30ms/200 or 300ms good to add sustain to anything ever. Extending Room sound, reverb sustain, instrument body sustain, but yeah, Vari-mu or the Pie compressor can do it better.

    I don't remember the last time I have used this exact Cytomic The Glue except when I'm using Ableton Live, my fav from Cytomic remains the The Scream. So all of the above is my experience with "Glue Compressor" in the Ableton Live not really The Glue plugin.

    Whenever I feel like I want to use G-Bus style compressor my first instinct will be the Vertigo VSC2. That plugin has better "box-tone" compared to other G-Bus inspired Bus compressor. I like its personality better, sweeter, sexier I forgot how many years I've been using it still not get bored of its sound.

    yes i discover this a few days ago and then i saw this at sisite and wanna get more involved at this thing.

    may goshhh, gonna study this now, but agree right now with the: THE bus compressor.
    i just question this cause some people discovers some ways to use it accidentally, u know? and maybe i can learn some ways that i didnt know to use it like @mild pump milk mention !
    another thing its, i tried few compressors , and so far i love the SPL IRON, i use it a LOT but need time to configure it, this thing its the one that can make me achieve a good glueing final sound and takes less time to achieve that.
    and one last thing, im not an ableton user i find it ver awful to flowing with the ideas, but we cant deny it have excellent tools if u can buy the complete version... or knowing how to sail the seaaaaa

    about The Scream, i love that u can modify the transistor, condenser etc, a LOT of freedom.

    that vertigo VSC2 i use it time ago but never get attached to it dont know why, but maybe one day gonna compared them.

    So just in case you didn't know but I think you already knew lol. Cytomic is the developer that made the Glue Compressor and all the analog filters used inside Ableton Live. Glue Compressor is basically 1:1 code of the Cytomic The Glue. All Ableton Filters (FX, inside Synth, Sampler etc) are 1:1 with Cytomic The Drop's filters.

    Cytomic also made the Ableton's Live stock EQ, EQ Eight - > LINK (Andrew Simper, Cytomic founder interview)

    EDIT : added more info. Corrected the AAS, it was AN (Amazing Noises) that made the Color Limiter not AAS. My bad. Got confused. Apologies.

    Your posts keep me coming back actively to this board, thank you sincerely for the effort you put in. I found some inspiration here, even if it didn't necessarily tell me something I didn't already know/feel.

    For anyone mixing fast, aggressive rock-based music try this one:
    'att/rel = 10ms/100ms, Ratio=4 (which is medium knee) for making drum bus snappier and add illusion of added energy to it.'
    on the Music Bus (Instrument All, everything but vocals) and have your snare hitting 3-4 gr, feels really good

    Edit: also wanted to ask if you're using the PA Vertigo in that case?

    this plugin being called "the" bus compressor is a bit of a stretch. you guys on PC have a portico, then also the VSC-2, the NI Solid Bus, mcdsp G channel dynamics, and a bunch of others. I haven't used the Glue but maybe a few times since I started using u-he Presswerk. Kinda forgot about it until I saw a "new" version from RET uploaded yesterday.

    It's very old (2009) discontinued plugin (still can be downloaded with others of Antress),
    thanks for reminding, am going to try it instead The Glue on the drum bus
