stuck? on almost year old insider build?

I haven't noticed your PC specs - is it at least 8th gen Intel, TPMv2 chip, SecureBoot, GPT, UEFI, no overclock, no fancy firewall blocks and so on?

make a clean Windows 11 installer on USB stick and do completely clean reinstall

 

That's the best time for a fresh install, and only putting back what you actually need. The Windows plugin folders are like a petri dish.

 

its an i3-6100U (2c 4t) 12gb ddr4 2133mhz ram 1tb ssd is that too low end to run the newer builds?
but that still doesn't explain why windows is corrupted. its possible proton vpn didn't play well with this insider preview build and corrupted windows. that's my theory anyway.

yea you don't minimum requirements to officially run Windows 11, hence why any attempts for update/upgrade may end up with BSOD,
most likely you altered previous installation to get W11, which might also explain why sfc/scannow cannot repair system integrity,

i don't know about that i mean what exactly are the official requirements? the article mentions dual core 1ghz as a minimum. i kind of think those were the 2021 requirements though. i ''upgraded'' from windows 10 without any modifications at all to the first w11 2021 iso build that was posted on the piratebay and have been updating it fine until windows got corrupted in July? 2023. i ran health check btw everything fine except the cpu.

you should never get your OS or your firewall from a torrent tracker. at least, not that one.

if this does not work I agree with many that you are going to reinstall Windows. It is worth learning this for future reference either way. Good luck!

 

It would explain why an update failed for sure if the right bypasses haven't been done, not being eligible for the upgrade wouldn't cause the corruption tho. I've ran/installed 11 on a bunch of unsupported hardware.

 

I'm not going to bother to reinstall windows on this old 2017 machine from scratch with the amount of cool stuff i have on here. I will probably get a new laptop within a year or two. the point of posting this thread was to try and figure out how to fix windows 11 manually. this preview build other than now being corrupted is actually pretty stable. the other thing i could do if i felt ambitious is install windows 11 25375 on another machine and copy all the corrupt drivers etc.. over and manually overwrite them on a different pc (take this drive out and plug it in a different pc) that *should* work. going to have to try that.

 

I really doubt an unsupported version would cause these problems like BSOD and file corruption. The first thing an OS installer looks at is a hardware inventory of the machine to make sure this kind of thing does not happen. If there was some hacking done to even install it, then maybe. But still doubtful.

I think the hard drive has a problem with it. This is why I suggested using Unetbootin pen drive Linux LiveISO. It will give tools like Libparted, QTparted, Gparted for partition tools, hwinfo and all sorts of other programs which can look at the system without Windows being loaded at all. It's often a better option than something like Hiren's boot tools. But Hirens still exists, I do not use Windows. https://www.hirensbootcd.org It used to be a great tool to have around.

If you take the drive and put it in another machine, that is not a great test. The rest of the machine will be different hardware and you will get unpredictable results. You could install a new fresh drive as the Primary and get all your data off this one though.

actually what i should do is install 25375 on a new drive on this laptop first that way the config should theoretically match.

 

Possibly. You could do the partition shell game, where you split the drive, move everything off c: and then wipe it/reinstall.

I never like "go buy something" answers. You could probably setup something like Oprekin or other lite Windows on a usb external drive, if you have one. If you are able to get the machine booted without the broken Windows version loading; you have more options. Once Windows boots, it is going to take control over files you would want to move. as "in use"

 

i'm going to try and update it later tonight. see what happens. probably bsod. if that doesn't work i'll probably just leave it as is. can't really be bothered going to the extreme to fix this old thing.

iT ACTUALLY UPDATED THiS TiME AND FiXED ALL CORRUPTED SYSTEM FiLES.

I THOUGHT THIS LAPTOP WAS SCREWED.

APPARENTLY IT WAS A KNOWN MICROSHAFT BUG.
