Uninstalling it completely isn't an option, as I use it for gaming and video editing, as well. Is there a way to disable it completely just when I need to? Or is there a way to do an alternate boot that has drivers disabled, without having another whole OS installation on it?

I know reaper really well and I've paid for it, I don't want to switch to another DAW at this point.

No, where would I do that?

Okay, I have an external Samsung SSD, a bluetooth mouse, an Arturia Keylab, and the Focusrite interface hooked up via USB. I had the problem long before the Keylab and have always used the bluetooth mouse and some sort of SSD, so I don't know what the problem could be.

Well, digging around a bit more (Reddit, mostly) and this is apparently a problem a lot of people are having with the newer RTX cards. This hadn't occurred to me before getting this computer, I wish it had, as I woulda gone with a Ryzen.

I've touched upon some questions in some responses, but to make this easier, lemme put em here.

Could this be as simple as just disabling that GPU in device manager before I open reaper?

What's up with NVIDIA HD Audio and NVIDIA virtual audio device in device manager? Should I disable those?

Is there a way to have an alternate boot that isn't a whole other OS install, but just one that has certain things disabled? Or, if not, is there some program that would enable something like that? Meaning, you start the program and it disables devices/kills processes based on my criteria?

In one of the reddit threads on this, someone proposed this, does this seem worth a try? Why would one want the audio interface to only use one core?

I used the Interrupt Affinity config tool to have my audio interface use CPU core 6. I then used DDU to remove the nvidia drivers and reinstalled the driver with nvcleanstall.

I installed the driver with these tweaks:

    -Disable installer telemetry

    -Unattended express installation

    -Expert tweaks

    -Disable driver telemetry

-Disable hd audio device sleep timer

    -Enable message signaled requested

    -Interrupt policy - specified processors

    -I selected core 7

    -Interrupt priority high

    -disable hdcp

I went from live 11 essentially being unusable due to the audio dropouts from DPC latency to being able to run my Motu m6 at 48khz at 64 samples with no audio dropouts or glitches. I do not know how this will affect gaming performance as I use my rig for audio production mostly.

Hm, I don't know really. I have two OS partitions - one for audio, and one for video and AI, with different drivers/configs.

you might want to check the Reaper forums, they're pretty good. Someone else may have had the same problem.
try searching for "Nvidia Latency" on the Reaper Forums. could save you a lot of troubleshooting.

Yes, i wrote this in reply#31 with the affinity-tool and in my list in reply#52 that the Geforce-RTX Cards can´t go under 1000 DPC Latency. If you need a Nvidia, you can use a Quadro or RTX (without Geforce in the name), they are about 300 DPC Latency. But you have no PC Workstation, so you mostly can´t change the card in a notebook, because they are soldered on the mainboard, but i think to remember that it´s possible with Asus notebooks ...

I'm stuck with what I have, so I need to find the most workable solution on it, I'm not about to go soldering in a new graphics card.

Last night, I disabled the RTX... things worked a little better, but not enough. It's also not really feasible because that's what my HDMI port runs off of, so I wouldn't be able to mix on my huge screen.

I know, I should have researched this better... Having no problems in the past, I thought that last machine just had something wrong with it. Now I know it's the RTX thing. Tonight, I plan on doing the affinity tool and hopefully that will get me to something where it's workable. I'm not in a position to get another machine yet, I'm only starting to pay this one off.

Using the Affinity program, I sent the GPU to core 4 and the NVIDIA audio to core 16. I didn't see the focusrite in the list, should I plug that in and also assign that to a different core?

Does this mean it only uses one core, or that the core handles interrupts? I'd assume I'd want more than one core for audio processing, no?

Yes, the Focusrite should be plugged in, or it won't show on that list.

Here's a link with all the things you can tune to lower the DPC with RTX cards:

an interup is a signal to the cpu. a core is a cpu

I don't want to tell bad info but... Could this problem be related to missing files or libraries?
Well, I updated my machine, but last year I was feeling a little nostalgic so I wanted to play old games on it.
I had a lot of problems when I tried to run them, you know... missing DLLs, crashes, low perfomance, etc. I had to install every Visual C++ package and the "DirectX end user runtime" which includes older files that older software and games need to run.

Could something similar be happening in this case?

OK if you want to keep that notebook ... there are some complete guides to fix it, with detailed instructions, this maybe helps more:

No, I wish that were the case. It's pretty well-documented that the newere RTX cards are causing problems with audio and DPC latency.

Thank you! I'm hoping to do the new tweaks and try again, tonight. I'll report back.

Sorry I'm late getting here, and I know one or two people have mentioned it, but it is almost certainly a driver issue. most likely video card, but it could be just about ANY out of date driver which can cause a computer to hang.
The fact you have a new computer means a driver is more likely to go out of date quicker than that of old ones because new equipment goes with even newer equipment and they rely on the guinea pigs (the public) to tell them something isn't working right!
