So I just tried Serum on Ableton Live trial and it sounds same as on Cubase.

 

Imagine that. Since you know your problem is not the DAW now, and all other music plays from daw,synths, and wav/mp3 players work correctly, problem is serum or a setting in it. Replace it with R2R version. Use Revo Uninstaller to get rid of the old one first, if possible.


If that doesn't fix it, you will have to go through all of your serum settings. If that doesn't work it is time to accept that it was Serum sounds like. Most of the times, when i put it into a dense project, I end up adding a gain plugin to it, or something like a saturator.

 

not aimed at anyone personaly. More of a bigger picture view.

Imagine all "THIS" (spend on some tutorial on a making 1 preset, then, involving more people to spend more time to "help".
all that time AVOIDING to make music.

 

Does your browser shut down your DAW? If you can't do two things at once with it, maybe you should get another computer.

 

So i uninstalled old Serum with Revo uninstaller and installed newest, but same sound again

 

So I tried even that ASIO4ALL driver, but still the same...
I am pretty out of options now

 

Uninstall program and delete preset folder and reinstall again
Preset folder is in your Documents\Xfer folder.
Maybe files in %APPDATA%\Xfer too.

idk, if it still not work
- try with another computer
- fresh install os in another hdd and try it
- If you not have another computer or hdd. Install it in new virtual machine (I know it sound stupid, maybe grab reaper demo instead of ableton because it small and lightweight).

or just move on and use another synth (but if you still have problem with another synth too maybe your os fault XD )

Actually I just tried it on fresh new W10 on my wife's computer. I installed Ableton Live trial and Serum. But the sound was the same. So it could be something with Focusrite 2i2 2nd gen which we both have.
I'll try it on my son's notebook. If it won't work there, so I'll pass I guess and use Vital instead I think it sounded ok.
btw, if you do the same (just filter with MG Low 24 on default settings) do you have the same sound as dude on video (cca 0:50)?

 

im not a muscian but the sound you got in your filter+1000Hz.mp3 is the correct sound its just a saw going into a filter.
the real heavy lifting of that sound is the way you voice the chords.

in youir example your first chord is D2, F2

try playing G0,D2,B2 for the first chord.

Yes, if you stick with 1k it maybe sound like your current setup. But if you start sweeping cutoff filter up and down while playing just like that youtuber does maybe you will get the same result as youtuber.

 

I guess you're right. I tried to complete recreate the chords with G0 (didn't see that on a keyboard) and I must admit it sounds much better. It's not the same as that guy, but pretty close. But the difference is in my noob hands.

Yeah, I was sweeping even before, but just random notes and not exact chords. I must admit it sounds much better after using same chords as him. It's not the same as that guy, but pretty close. I can't play piano

I tested the preset and it was the same as mine, so I thought midi wasn't neccessary. I just played it in a Winamp. So I want to apologise and thank you for your help.
Even now I had to google it how to get midi into Cubase. Drag and drop didn't work, so I had to import it. Everything is new for me and lot of informations.

 

Sorry, didn't want to offend you. But everything in this thread about broken installations, DAWs, audio interfaces, drivers and so on, just to find out that nothing is wrong at all, really was unnecessary.

You have to know at least the basics of music before trying to make music. It's a bit like calling "Help, my guitar or amp is broken." And for three days, several people are trying to figure out what could be wrong just to find out that everything is fine. The only problem was that you first have to learn how to play the guitar.

 

Oh, ok. You just started from too advanced level. You can't cheat and start to climbing from higher steps if your legs haven't grown yet enough and are too small for those steps.
You need to learn basic stuff about production first.

 

I got you. I'm not complete new in making music, but I can't play any instrument.(if you don't count Twinkle, Twinkle, Little star and so I used to make music in Fruity Loops, Music Maker, Acid and some eJays back in 90s. But just for fun. Then I tried Cubase and it was pretty intimidating, so I left it for awhile. After 20 years I'm back and everything is new for me again.
I was looking for a hardware/software problem because of my IT history.

You're completely right. I have some music making history, but this is really a big pie for me But I'm still learning from YT videos and so.
