Thanks for asking the question, as I've been wondering the same since it got released.

I'm also really curious about this. It's a very expensive mistake, for you to buy one, then to realise it doesn't work. AFAIK I think it needs to be online in order for you to register your packs etc. So I'd say ableton must have some sort of copy protection when the unit phones home to verify the licence etc of the software and add on packs. But I'm just throwing out my thoughts, I really dunno if that's the case. I'd love for a definitive answer if anyone has the knowledge please share.

Whilst I wouldn't like to guess, and I don't know. I would question the features and downsides on the Push 3 and price, against the Push 2, and would certainly pick the 2 than the 3!

Where does he say that it doesen't work with Live from Sister Site? All he is talking about is about the Legit Live.

 

I agree i think it's very expensive. But I do like the mpe ability. I dunno if that alone if justifiable for the huge hike in price. Has anyone got any experience of using it here....compered to v2?

 

Maybe that's the Case for the Standalone Controller like it is with the MPC Standalones because there would be the need to crack the Operating System on the Hardware, but for the normal one why shouldn't it work. Every Single Hardware Controller i owned worked without Problems with DAW's from Sis Site. But i find it very bad that at that price the Push3 has there is not even the Standard Live Version included.

 

Also there is already a Thread about Push 1 and 2 with cracked Live.

At least before just spitting out anything, try to go through the stuff, you are talking about at least.
He clearly says, it needs legitimate Ableton.

Pretty sure it works as a controller like Push 2 .....but not as Stand-alone

 

I'm sorry you are right i missed it, but to me it seems like he is using the Standalone Version which needs than to be updated to the Live Version you use. but if you use the normal Version there is no need for that, because than you are using it as a Controller only which fully depends on the Live Version installed on your PC (Live 11.3 is minium Version for Push3 below won't work). Also there is a 30 day Return possible so if it doesen't work just send it back and get your Money back.

I agree 100%, it should include it, at the bare minimum. It does seem very expensive for what it is. Still curious has anyone got a chance to try the R2R version of Ableton with a Push 3 (preferably barebones version) yet?

 

Hi all,
For those of you that are still curious. I just received my Push3 barebones, initial test revealed it works disconnected from the internet on v11.3.3 non-legit (R2R licence generated). I haven't tested it any further than simply loading one of my own projects, and trying a couple of the MPE instrument presets from Drift etc so far, so good. This is really promising. Not sure how it will work with any of the other versions yet but the project I loaded just to test it out worked so far, no issues.

Push 2 works with SS Live11. I think there will be no problems with push 3. The only thing you can’t download packs

 

Cheers. Hopefully it will still work with v12 (non legit) when it eventually gets released. I'm gona also try it on latest build of Suite and Beta v12 (when I find the time). I'll report back, fingers crossed folks....

Controller Version
If the Push 3 is only used as a controller, it works with non legit Live without any problems. V12 will make no problems either imho.
The Puhs 3 then has about the same performance as the Push 2 plus MPE.

Standalone Version
However, the Push 3 only works as a standalone device with an original license for Live. This is because the latest version of the Live software is downloaded to the Push 3 directly via WLAN. Since the Push 3 is not a Windows device, but runs with a customized Linux version, a non-legit version cannot simply be side loaded onto the Push 3.
The only hope for those who can't or don't want to buy a license is that someone like R2R or VR crack the Linux version of Push 3 and find a way to upload to Push 3. This is certainly an increased level of difficulty.
Also, one should think twice about bricking a $2,000 device because VR or R2R only almost made it.

Conclusion
If you buy Push 3 as a controller version only and stay with it: Fine
If you buy Push 3 as standalone or will upgrade your Push 3 from controller to standalone: No way (atm or forever)
