    Dis boi expensive!

When i demo'd it, i didn't love the box tone, it kinda dulled the sounnd. On masters anyway. Apparently they released a fix for that a few weeks later. I wonder how it sounds now. My demo ran out by the time they fixed it

when you say runs decently unlike Ash, do you mean as in CPU usage? or sound quality? etc?

I spent a solid few days testing Gold Clip against Ash, and to me Ash killed Gold Clip every time. Clipping is very important to me, as i tend to do genres and mixes like some of the examples posted in this thread, hyperpop, distorted kanye type beats etc. I found Gold clip to break apart in an un musical way much much faster than Ash. Newfangled Elevate is better than gold clip to me as well. Almost even Kclip.

I'm just a hobbyist, it's less important to me I just wanna make things loud ha. I definitely was just talking about CPU performance, on my 12th gen i7 ash ultra is basically unusable. and even with Ash i start running into issues with a bunch of them stacked which ive been trying to do for the whole clip to zero baphometrix take on things. so for usability, and considering its my dumbass Gold Clip, or almost anything other than Ash will win.

ah haha for sure! do you have kclip? its very lightweight, and is pretty powerful! versatile with many flavors of clipping, multiband etc.

light weight USUALLY isn't an issue, i have shit dialed in on my rig- like people were complaining about that moog mariana eating up half their cpu i could run 10. i use nebula all the time and stack a stupid stupid amount up all over projects. but ash ultra just basically wont work its crazy, even though it does sound really good.

yeah i got k clip but i never used it much, or any clipper. i have more than enough from the sister site i was just seeing what all the fuss was about. i was just doing a/b not blind and not liking acustica very much i still perceive ash to sound really good damn

$25 for Christmas right now.

As much as I love StandardClip, I think this is going to stand apart from it, not necessarily better, just different by the sound of it.
I won't be finding out because:
    a) I honestly don't need one more clipper, and
    b)
I don't understand why devs buy into this bullshit; you'd think they'd research every angle of copy protection beforehand. :dunno:

The dev explained that he chose ilok because it's the only way he could do a "rent to own" system (i.e. pay monthly until it is paid off), so more people could afford it.

That, and well, it hasn't been cracked yet so the protection is obviously working.
Given how expensive it is, he obviously got the best protection package that ilok offer to clients. I.e. the newest one that we haven't really seen be cracked much yet

A developer we have been hearing a lot about lately probably would have said the same thing a month ago.

It's 2023—give it 15 minutes or so and everyone crawling the interwebs will have it.
Given release patterns, there are better options for more secure protection as we've seen teams mention before (though the other methods still punish the legit user, just in different, arguably lesser ways.) That said, in light of the rent-to-own deal, which I wasn't aware of, it does make more sense, the other option there being online authorization which, unless it requires a constant connection, admittedly isn't foolproof in a rent-to-own situation.
This is a sore spot for me because, besides iLOK being a shit service, PACE really doubled down with its insult-to-injury when it introduced its "Zero Down Time" subscription plan (don't forget the "convenience" fee,) a plan which is something that should be a fuckin QoL addition, not a paid bonus feature.

ok so here are my thoughts after using it, it doesnt seem to work well as like a normal clipper, as someone said i can get way more gain reduction out of Ash. however when you go to the modern setting and barely barely clip it or bring the threshold down, like so its just touching then increase the "gold" and "alchemy" settings it definitely sounds good to me and boosts the loudness. the gui is handy and i appreciate their business strategy, minus the hype. but the rent to own (minus the ilok bs but i already had it so whatever) and they keep emailing like how to's and guides out, it just seems really polished. it's probably over priced and hyped up but i think if people are using it like they would another clipper to try and get max GR without noticable distortion they'll be disappointed. it almost like... enhances the sound though when used so its just at the threshold, and i dig that part a lot. maybe i'm an idiot though and just new to clipper use in general, which is true.

The gold knob is the magic sauce of the plugin. When i demo'd it it kinda reminded me of the affect you get from tape, as far as non-pumpy compression, or something

It's just the second soft clipper. The way they described it, it works "upwards" kinda, but the result is the same as your usual dual clipper setup.
Also I'm pretty sure it got cracked immediately after the release. I mean, I tried it somehow, so it must've been.

I assume you mean Newfangled Audio Saturate (Elevate is another plugin)? And if yes, how does a comparison between a clipper and a limiter help him to differentiate some soft clippers?

You probably just installed the demo, like me.
I'm sure it hasn't been cracked, i've been loading the site every day looking for it lol

To be fair, Elevate has the clipper from Saturate in it

Newfangled uses a spectral clipper. It's obviously different.
I've come to the conclusion that all standard clippers (Kazrog, V-clip, standardclip, ect.) sound identical when similar knee/make-up-gain is used
And in retrospect...duh! No shit companies will make the same exact thing if it's the trend
Brainworx might have some asymmetrical distortion in their plugs to make it sound better but I can just use apShaper to recreate it with less aliasing + an ultra precise DC removal filter :P
Any differences are likely from the oversampling method.
There's a few that ARE different though. Voxengo Elephant's instant & clip modes push distortion away from high frequencies + has lookahead. Sounds much better & more transparent than standard clippers.
TDR Limiter 6 has slight variations in clipping modes, think this might be multiple clipper in serial, slight lookahead or pre/post filtering. Also sounds better than standard clippers.
