Midas MR18

 

Isn’t it little bit like rocket science???
MR12 is looking very promising. And the price is what I am after. It is called digital console and not an audio interface. Is it the difference? It is not a desktop device, rather for rack.

To be fair it got the job done but compared to the MR18, the pre's are subpar.. My US16x08 lasted 3 years (just after the ext warranty expired).. That being said, I would steer clear of Tascam products.. I know the price for that Model 12 is attractive though.. I also like the workflow the Model 12 exhibits.. Honestly my current experience is similar to the Model 12 since the digital mixer of my MR18 is controlled by a Behringer X-Touch..

Are you recording bands or other groups with Ableton? Why do you need so many channels recording at one time?

 

@clone No, I don’t record bands. It is for my home studio as I stated in my original post. And I am exaggerating with those devices. I didn’t know that they exist like Model 12 or even Evo 16. They look attractive in terms of features and price range. And my eyes open wider and wider seeing such nice instruments.

 

Extra analog inputs can turn what was going to be a $250 interface purchase, needing to be a $1000 interface quickly. That's how they end up with model #'s where they factor in 8 channels of adat optical, like the 18i8 you were asking about initially. If you aren't trying to record that many channels simultaneously, you can get away with a lower i/o count. If you have a lot of gear to connect, a patch bay in front of your audio interface can be another option.

 

Recording SM58 mics: while there's nothing wrong with that mic, it doesn't need the best sounding pre-amp, like a condenser in a great sounding room would. But It does need lots of clean gain, you'll really need to open the gain knob with a 58.
So I would investigate which pre amp performs best in that regard.

my issues with motu on windows mostly had to do with having a nvidia gpu, otherwise besides not getting constant updates my m2 has been fine.

I have not once had any issue with drivers or quality with the Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen
Nothing at all. Going to go out on a limb and say there is a bit much bias here.
I have only used the interface. No headphones or mics
