With a computer that spec'd out, you could run MacOS and Crossgridder and that machine would not bat an eye at most cracked Windows applications. And of course, you could also run Parallels Desktop. @m.sarti also offered another solution of dual boot, but as a Logic user I would always want it as my DAW and plugin host. That is where running MacOS with a Windows virtual solution can be the better option. It's a little bit speculation, but I think the majority of MacOS users are still Logic users; even with other DAWs gaining in market share.

There are ways around nearly everything of concern, except for Windows plugins which will not allow themselves to be run in a virtual environment. For those you are pretty much screwed; at least as of today. Your only option can be Parallels. Otherwise, you could get away with not even installing Windows; or at least only booting to Windows on rare occasion. I think the biggest decision to make with that machine would be how you want to size any partitions.

If you want to reshittify your MBP, sure, go ahead, install WIndows on it.

Otherwise install Sonoma. Unless you need 32 bit plugins, then stay on Mojave. Everything newer is 64 bit only.

You know, you can create a new volume and install Sonoma on it via USB flash drive for testing.

What I had in mind was to clone the drive to another partition, or SSD over USB 3.1 or better, and install the upgrade of the OS on that. One thing to mention is that the highest version of Logic Pro that Mojave will run cannot run on Ventura (which is the OS version that the OP had been pondering upgrading to) – but the purpose of doing this sort of experimental upgrade-test is to see which software gets deprecated by the upgrade or not.

A lot of 32-bit stuff won't even run or install on Mojave. (Speaking from experience.)

thannks alot for the info , ill look into it. my internal drive is apple SSD AP0512M Media (PCI-Express Internal Physical Disk - GUID Partition Map
yeah thats what im worried about, for the most part i only store whats absolutely needed on the internal . i have a feeling im going to have issues trying to go back to mojave if i ever needed.
If i create a boootable installer on a USB do i need to put both the Mojave installer and the Ventura installer on it? i have both installers ready just chilling in my applications folder ,
yeah i have all my software written down and if there is anything i dont use i unregister it when i delete it ,not too many ive had to assign to this machine but there is some

shit. was your reply even to me? lol

i was debating ventura because it is the highest that ableton 11 will run on and still be able to use ableton 12. idk, maybe i dont need 12, lol. I just know affter reading info on mac os my machine is already going to be considered "not compatible" after the next 2 OS comes out. bullshit. bought this mid 2018.
ima figure out the "bootable installer on USB stick but my heart is telling me just to stick with Mojave. dont always need the "next best thing"
i just know mac os and updates are stupid .. lol .. just trying to get as much information as possible from people w experience because searching on the internet is hard to find the proper info in detail

you'd need two physical USB sticks to have bootable installers for each MacOS version

    not sure what you mean,
to create the installer, it's not that you just drag and drop downloaded file,
to boot the install and do the install, there are few reboots, you need the stick plugged in,
after system is installed, its bootable on its own, so you can eject the stick and keep safe in shelf :))

    no, you're mixing different things,
usb stick installer is just a bootable installer, it holds no user data,
if you had full bootable system disk clone on external usb ssd, then you could pick it as boot device instead of internal ssd

Izotope really seem to be pushing this issue the most. I would not update MacOS over a single version number update in Ableton, but I would review the changelog and the "what's new?" in Ableton v12 and then weigh the options.

There is 0 chance I would do this update personally, and I can say this because I haven't updated for Logic new versions. On Mojave you are stuck at Logic v10.5. That was a very nice update with lots of new stuff. Drum Machine Designer is different, they got rid of EXS24, they added RemixFX plugins, and all the "live loops" sketch BS. I'm still on v10.4.7 and don't even care. I really see very little point to the new MacOS version updates for an Intel machine; and I think all the iLok bypassed stuff from 2015-ish are worth way more to me than a Logic update. Altiverb7, all 2015 PA from R2R, all 2014/2015 Softube, Sonnox Oxford Inflator and Dynamics, All 2015 mcdsp, all Ina GRM Tools, Soundtoys, Lexicon, and whatever else I have forgotten. Most aren't even 32 bit. For a 1 version upgrade of Ableton or Izotope whatever? No thanks.
