Noticed just now. When I load plugins they load without oversampling. As soon as I click on WIN or switch window and back to Reaper the oversampling is activated. Is it the same for you ?

is not happening before 2017 I guess (IVORY - Maselec MEA-2 equalizer IAE2, year 2017 model). It reminds me how we were floating back then before Sir Isaac Newton discovered gravity.

One is Pro-Q3 on natural phase mode as benchmark for symmetrical shape and another one is the IVORY 5.

I usually stop the playback and press play again and only then the OS change will take effect and the status on the window showing it. Reaper cant change FX instances OS while the audio is playing. Even when the audio is stopped, the change will on take place the moment you play the audio. I didnt know that you could change by switching to other Windows.

 

Well the bottom line is that I prefer not to discover anything if it is to stay with this guys, or discover for myself that through a flow of information, each more contradictory than the other, sprinkled with marketing and communication which is more focused on forcing than supporting.

This photo story from support and for me the worst, much more than bloatware, is simply espionage, it sends shivers down my spine once again..

here's a good settings of LIFT 4 to use it as a nice "vibe box" for electronic music that nobody needs. Hours of learning how it works, watching how Luca used it, learning all the compression curves and clipping curves and reading the manuals of related hardwares and everything needed. This damn thing made track sounds good and familiar like most of the electronic music out there. Fucking impressive shit.




1) gain stage it with INPUT to almost clipping with HP, LP ON (for headroom to prevent plugin internal clipping) + CLIPPER ON at 0% + LO+HI SHELF at 0.50. Back down the INPUT if clipper start triggering. bad gain staging, bad sound.
2) set compressor first, just pick mode 3 - Snappy settings according to Luca. The best sounding IMO. 2db MAX Gain Reduction.
- MODE 1 is balanced, 2 is hard knee, 4 is leveler.
3) CLIPPER MODE 5 [OVS 4x] at 50%, push it with compressor's MAKEUP gain to 1-2db GR/CLIP max. Fine tune accordingly.
- Mode 1-4 from soft knee to hard knee.
- Mode 5 is basically the same with MODE 1 but support OS. Other clipper modes are irrelevant, no OS.
4) Dont worry about the HI LO SHELF 0.50 boost. Combining with HP & LP will give world-class smiley BAX curve that every good track has just to feed the clipper so it wont eat the mid.
5) SIDE AMOUNT to 52% just for the f of it.
6) SATURATION is basically just preamp sound, wont go into non-linearity, just harmonics. Below 60% is safe from the aliasing range.
7) made a shitty track sounds like a record.

I'm going to save those presets and try to use it again when i master something. The first impression of this plugin that i had wasn't that good. Maybe i overdid it? Or didn't choose the right compression mode and clipping mode. Diamond Color EQ 3 gives me that radio friendly sound without any efforts at all, that's why i end gaving up on this one.

 

I didnt get good sound at first, that's why I try to learn everything, then I figured it should be used moderately but on the edge of everything by gain staging it, that's how Luca uses it, he is the one that tuned it I believe. The MASTER version is only useful the track is already loud AF, the range is smaller with focus on details, the MIX version has better range and can be used everywhere. I like the DIAMOND COLOR EQ too, the saturation triggered by high end boost according to the manual. That 50k sounds lovely.

 

That's the most hard task for me. Learn the calibration of a plugin that doesn't have VU meters and probably was made accordingly Luca's gain structure, which i doubt is the same as mine. Implementing this plugin for sure would result in a change of inputs and outputs of my actual chain and i'm lazy for this task now But it's very nice that you did this studying of the plugin and at least i will have a starting point to try it out next time.

Magic Flow (with pre off) followed by Diamond EQ with pre on is a nice vocal chain because of the 50k and the nature of the amp itself. HMF can be useful for intelligibility and to make it cut through.

There's a nice low end trick i use when i'm mastering for this EQ that consists on killing a little bit of the kick drum on the LMF and boosting the lows at 20 or 40 cicles. This gives a HUGE depth on the low end if used on caution.

 

excellent analysis ! thank you! i agree that this thing can really enhance a track. I sometimes just use a touch of the widener and bax eq with 1 db of clip and it can add a lot of depth etc.

 

can you, (or anyone) recommend a good gain staging plugin? something that maybe reads your input signal and automatically adjust it to hit targeted level? Does something like that exist?

I saw r2r mention in an NFO that cracking ilok is simply "not fun". So perhaps it's already defeatable but just way too tedious to wanna spend so much time on it?
