dont know if were supposed to discuss movies in this thread, but it doesn't get much traffic these days.
so I think the director/writer is brilliant, I suggest you check out all his films. I think there are 2 others,
"the myth of the great american sleepover", and "it follows"

he has a john hughes quality but one that exceeds john hughes breadth of abilities, john hughes was fantastic at telling
human stories. As Trains,Planes and Automobiles will surely remain a classic, so too Under The Silver Lake will be a classic
its like Hughes meets Hitchcock, funny,dramatic, mysterious.

Its been re-released on Bluray, the original film was leaked by someone at A24 prior to release (by just a few days) thus spoiling sales and diminishing traffic - He hasn't made a film since then, mostly writing for TV if I understand correctly.

Tragic, he has a great talent and can make a great film and bring it in on budget. Think what he could do with 1/10 the budget of a Marvel/Disney film...

It's about aliens in 1980s downtown New York. Soundtrack full of 80s synths and drum machines. Great clothing.

''Leave the world behind'' is a great movie just watched it last night

 

gonna have to disagree and says Raw stands out as his best movie, just because it's an anomaly of the time. a stand up special in theaters that made like 50 million in the box office? 130 million in 2022 money according to wikipedia, that's crazy. Still, hard to go wrong with Murphy and Martin and everyone else.

 

for an amazing comedy AND an amazing soundtrack, if i didn't already post this.... Black Dynamite. I recently watched They Cloned Tyrone and was highly disappointed it was basically a ton of plot points from Black Dynamite but without the hilarious humor. Watch this instead. You WILL laugh at something.

 

Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon. 1975. Just as everyone will get a laugh out of Black Dynamite.... not everyone will like this movie. Few will like this movie, but it's in my top five. It's very very long, it's very dry (although there is humor when you look for it) and the main character is very unlikable. It's one of the best looking movies ever filmed, every scene looks like a painting. Kubrick. He used a special lens to film scenes by candlelight, only like 9-10 were made from Zeiss. Zeiss kept a couple, Kubrick got a couple and NASA got the rest to FILM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. The character basically has no arc, and I love it.

 

I hardly ever watch films, but I got "Cell" from rutracker and watched it. now I keep my cell phone off much more.

Raw was very good, it was mind blowing at the time, but it was stand up comedy, and Eddie is a fantastic stand up comedian.
But i was wrong about Black Dynamite, while it is a very good film, it wasn't the one I was thinking of when complimenting Eddie Murphy's acting abilities. I had made a mistake, I was actually thinking of "Dolemite is my name".

This is a great performance by Eddie Murphy. I think his best ever...and it explains where those "party records" with the filthy stories
came from.....

not quite up to Dolemite is my name, but it has some very funny scenes. Its a little to hollywood insider for most folks I think
thats why its only 6.5 on the IMDB, but if you understand much about the way the Entertainment business works, and the paranoia
and insecurities of the "talent" its very funny and worth a watch or two...
