I actually love those sorts of skins. It must be the nostalgia factor

Yea I know that Serum skin. The knobs on the Vavra skin are actually a recreation of the knobs on the Serum skin

 

Wow. I've never seen such an offensively terrible GUI ever. It makes my head hurt and I feel like vomiting just by looking at it. I can't even imagine how it must feel like having to actually work with it

When that first came out there was some buzz about how good it sounded, then some people pointed out issues with it (NOT just the GUI) and the dev came across as total assh... combative.

As @Lois Lane pointed, it is skinnable now, but I was too shocked initially to even consider it. And it still looks like a mess, all those "SOURCE" dials, what? What's wrong with a mod matrix or something?

 

True! I'm surprised that retro skins are even mentioned here. Retro is not a synonym for bad UI design.
And Serum itself has set standards in UI design.

There is 1 skin that is actually, well, "acceptable":

 

Completely agree. In many cases I prefer the Windows 95/98 look to what we have now. That Serum98 skin is a great example of why this look just works. It's easy on the eyes, everything is sorted into similar lists and buttons, and you are so familiar with that design that you feel like you already know it even if it's the first time you used it (at least if you were born before 1995 or so).

Infinitely much better than the original!

It's def a low tidemark on the shit-filled barrel of gaudy, user-unfriendly interfaces contained in this thread, teetering precariously between amateur, offensive and a deliberate crime against humanity.

I also stumbled across this video - to be fair, the dude makes a decent fist of making music from these monstrosities.
