Hello everyone reading this. I have a cool idea to make a somewhat useful Kontakt Library. I want to sell it for a low price, few $$ max. Profit being my main goal - do you think it's a good idea to also release it FREE on sister site? How would you go about marketing such product? My only idea is to send a free copy to relevant Youtuber musicians so they can make a video about it.

Sister site can be used to promote your business of course. Specially at the beginning to help members discover you site.
What I'm not sure about is if nowadays it's better to charge few bucks, or have a Patreon plan. I'm not into this, but I see that Patreon seems to work well specially for free / cheap things. So you may want to check this solution too.
Last but not least, sending your material to established Youtubers is a good idea, but also having you own YT channel is important.

That will be difficult. Offering a product for a fee and free of charge at the same time is kind of weird. Besides, our members are savers. If they find your Lib on sister for free, no one will buy it. With very few exceptions.

I remember an AS member Thenatan who begun with selling Skins for VST very cheap (it was not even worth stealing it ). Later he sold VSTs and today he has several VST he sells via webshop. www.thenatan.store

Certainly, you can choose whatever start suits you. At the end of the day the “only” way is to make people dependent, invested in you and your style. So, produce stuff you can make tons of and that comes to you easily. With that in mind the best way is to just start.

All your questions will dissipate with time while learning by doing, otherwise you easily will fill your head with all sorts of worries and questions that may not be relevant for the stage you are at the moment. A classic problem for most startups.

Thsi is not true, there are much more members of sister site buying after trying than you think.
I kn ow for sure, because my own material was posted there, and I didn't see any problem in sales,

 

That would be good. I'm one of them too.
But when the subject comes up every now and then, I get the impression that most people think we're idiots to buy something that can be downloaded as crack or pirated.

 

You may have a look also into other styles of Packaging
There are other Sample Players that could be beneficial. Especially licencing wise.

No, not everyone thinks that way. Many members are conscious that if developers dye there will be noting to share anyways.
Obviously, some members from poor countries will never buy, but that's because they simply cannot.
Also, some people even with money are just too egoistic to analyze the situation as a whole because they only think in themselves. But yest there are enough people buying.

You can clearly understand that when seeing how well Patreon is working. Many people could just download free material from Analog Obsession, as an example, but the guy have a lot of patreon members.

Obviously , it means an effort to promote your products and establish a special relation with your potential Paterons, but if you sell your products, you also have to do this effort.

You can offer a Lite version for free (maybe 10 instead of 60 presets)
You can also make a free version with a big notice in the UI "Free version please donate to remove notice" think of Meldaproducts...
If the product is good at a good price, people will pay.
I've seen a lot of nice VSTs created with Maize Sampler lately like: Quiet Music, Audiolatry, Notonic Subs all made in Maize
But Kontakt has more options.
