Everytime someone makes a legit complaint about acustica releases and lack of updates, the ceo writes some long ass paragraph of nonsense and the people at gearslutz instantly fall back into their "daddy you're so perfect" bag wtf

Am I the only person who notices this?

Bro for the umpteenth time update the classics with the new tech (so I can sell them shits)

Might've noticed that I rethought my initial statement on the second page of this thread and went on trying testing the plugs themselves. I explained why I reacted the way I did to that one dude, which you seem to be ignoring as well.
I ask you again: stop making it personal.

You should give a warning for statements like that and put them in a spoiler, to avoid triggering others.

It was a very traumatic Xmas.

I sold my UAD card after upgrading my computer just because now I had enough process to properly run Acustica plugin (that was a few weeks before UAD release their native version). UAD aren't better or worse than AA, just different, I miss the possibility to records with plugin directly, but as I'm not recording anymore that much now, it's not a big deal. What UAD is really better with their plugin is the compressor, but I find other alternative. So I wouldn't say it's a brand vs another, but just some AA are better than UAD and some UAD are better than AA. Acustica have a great clipper for exemple, I like the Diamond serie, which is great to make stuff loud, their preamp emulation (I think that one is on the first R2R drop) are good too. The HWMC is a great tool for mastering, I'm using it a lot when I send a demo mix to an artist, easy to set up quickly to have a big sound.

One thing I like about AA vs UAD is the way they handle update. When they update a new product (like Lift4 few month ago) they keep the older version in the installation (I still have Lift2) and the new version is a new plugin, and it's free. Same with Ash a few weeks ago, they had a new plugin for free. Some don't like having to much plugin and sure it would be better to have the same plugin updated instead of a new one, but at least you know it will not mess your older project. On the other side, with UAD, big update happen less frequently, but when they do, your plugin become a "legacy" version, which mean all your older project want to open the new version, which is of course not free (that is also probably one of the biggest reason I left UAD, when they update the API channel strip or another one, half of my project became impossible to recall without buying the new version)

there is nothing personal about plugins i am never going to buy, and probably never going to use.

just by the change in your tune already proves exactly what i was commenting about. Dollars to donuts you will be using these plugins months from now. That is a repeat of Falcon2 like the ungrateful threads when it was released. And by now, some of those people who claimed it was junk have not only used it a lot, some have even bought it.

The thing is that there isn't one general way. The owner of the company said it himself.

I can give you a general algorithm it's one of the three:
    1. go -18dB OR -12dB (for some weird reason this has been working really nice) (ERIN, VT4)
    2. slowly increase the volume until you start listening to artifacts or distortion, step back 5/6dB and use the trim to increase intraplugin (SAND, SALT, TITANIUM)
    3. flood the volume in till you distort if that's the intention (TAUPE, PUMPKIN)

Always remember there is a trim in all plugins (that I use) that work differently (!) depending on the plugin

Inspite of being an AA "cultist" and LOVE AA, there are a few things I don't like:
    - Sometimes the software you're buying has obvious bugs (which are very minor starting 2022)
    - The prices are very high (so I only buy on holidays or promotions)
    - They take a huge amount of space (I have 77GB on a Transcend Go SD worth of AA plugs)
    - They use a lot of processing (decreasing A LOT from 2021 and improved since VST3)
    - Updates for newer engine versions is very slow (most were updated at least once)

Nonetheless they are very good plugs. Just check youtube comparisons between hardware and software and AA always comes first.

Okay, how TF does Trim work in Salt? Why is it not trimming as intuitively expected?
A "cultist" is one taking no criticism and arrogantly or angrily dismissing everything deviating from their perspective as insignificant, below them or offensive (or rather even blasphemous).
We can disagree on things, and might even see each other as, shall I say, very highly subjective, but as long as there's some respect - there will be some respect. You know what I mean.
It's not easy for me with my volatile nature to remain respectful while the other party is so up their ass they can see the light of day again, I'll admit, but that wasn't the case right here and right now.

Then I'm removing "cultist". I'm a bit of a fanboy but the tech does has its shortcomings.

OK, so TRIM IN SALT (may be dif in other plugins) is essentially preamp distortion, it saturates/clips. You feed a good -12/18dB into it than use trim as saturation/drive. Try on 8xAA with ultra on (always Ultra on). Other than that the trim is not usable or distorts weirdly. They all distort differently and I recommend:
    - low freqs: pink (API)
    - med freqs and drums: sand (SSL)
    - high freqs and synths: pink or gold (API or Neve)

It just can't get any rest. I'm now really glad that this crack happened. What even the fuck is this.

What a hypocrite Giancarlo must then be.

    Thanks for explanation.
I do think this design decision is schizophrenic tho.

Both ASH and ASHULTRA crash without fail when I bypass them in the DAW, can't even properly test them against my preferred clippers.
I'm done. Tried to move away from my bias, but it seems things are only a bit better than the last time I had a displeasure working with Acustica. Don't see a point in checking further.
Glad it's now exposed to everybody and I don't have to go around preaching to the desert like I did for the last few years. I hope R2R will keep tearing them a new a-hole. However big the Giancarlo one is, Acustica can always use another.
