Im in the process of learning some new speakers and looking for some sonically great reference tracks for melodic progressive house music, stuff in the 120-124 bpm range?

Nobody knows any melodic tech/prog house 120-124bpm tunes that are sonically perfect for reference tracks? :suicide:

I think it's the best if you just use tracks that you like as a reference. If you produce melodic house, you must know some great tracks from that genre, that you like?

Eric Prydz/Pryda/Cirez D have great production, most use his music as reference.

    1. kamome sano - Bullet-time Bounce (this is actually complextro & slightly faster but i like it)

    2. Lia - 青空 [Caramel Pod Remix] ( this isn't native house, or prog house, and it's actually converted from pop)

Spotify, find the Spotify top Melodic House playlist. That's the Melodic House tracks that been getting highest stream these days. Should be a good start. It means they sound good, survived the Spotify compression without sounding annoying and people play them repeatedly. It's a bad idea to reference an old House track since the genre "standard" changes with time and trends frequently. Just my two cents.

Thanks all. Ive never done this before and like I said, im using new speakers, so I need some current reference material to get myself in the right ballpark, ideally from a touring artist/label with songs produced, mixed and mastered in top tier studios. I dont use Spotify (out of principle) and im looking for better quality anyway. I honestly dont listen to other artists music unless its a product demo or im at a club obviously. Does nobody here have a go to song they use for such a thing? Prydz might be a good place to start.. but which tune? Hes all over the place. Im specifically seeking those 120-124 bpm "melodic house" songs.. you know the ones, soft-ish groovy beats and bass, sweet melodies, a tad bit of trancey and techno feel I suppose.. progressive... oh should I just go ahead and name every damn genre now lol ???

You just described his whole output, just listen to his music, he's doing all of it with different aliases and sometimes have most of the influences on one, dunno, are you testing speakers or trying to find reference track for your music?

Yeah, and some of it that ive heard isnt that great and some is exceptionally great. Its finding the right one(s) to reference isnt it.

Speakers and in turn my music, obviously.

I will checkout the suggestions here and I've come up with a few other potential artists and songs after a few hours of research on my own. Still in the middle of it. I wanna be sure it was done in a high end studio and has been road tested on big systems. I came here hoping for some good tips and to avoid wasting time digging around.. im lazy like that sometimes  lol

Thanks and still open to suggestions if anybody has any...

Prydz and Deadmau5 have most high end setups in the scene, both are kinda pioneers of that sound and both have lot of live experience, probably mixed and mastered by someone who isn't any less great, so they are always safe reference.

Personally, I find modern psytrance music benchmark of how EDM should sound, especially heavy hitters that got 2-3 decades of professional career behind them, those guys really have careful sound design and quite obsessive ear for detail, K&B combos, just recently I referenced Anyma and E-Clip for low end, both top notch, but probably you are after more deeper mellow ones like Ben Bohmer and Anjuna guys use.

Anyma may not have the most groundbreaking ideas in terms of melodies and sound selection but his production is sonically impressive. "Explore Your Future" in particular really stands out. If OP can get his hands on some FLACs he'd be on his way. Hope this helps.

Thats a good one. RE: Anyma - Explore Your Future, its not exactly the style of music im making, but I can certainly appreciate the high level production, how spatial, clean and punchy it sounds.. its actually pretty perfect for referencing new speakers I think. Now if only I can find a proper WAV or FLAC.. hmm :dunno:
