I want to cover my basic need of instruments and sounds and classic presets up to a 90% with my own sample packs ready to go and portable on my MPC and get away from having thousands of presets in various vsts etc.

So I have lifted some instrument programs straight from MPC stock libraries, Ive sampled some classic guitars from Kontakt and sampled some modern sounds from Serum etc,

Do you have any tip on either classic, bread and butter or simply great presets from either Kontakt libraries or Vsts today, Roland cloud classics etc that could be handy to have? whatever is available as vst today.

Fantasia, the first thing (and often last thing) anyone ever heard from their Roland D50? That's pretty iconic.

An instrument that's pretty iconic once you realize it's all over the place in soundtracks is the Korg Wavestation. Pretty hard to sample though and I'm not sure if any premade libraries exist. The VST version is very solid though, it's a 1:1 exact copy.

Probably the most famous use of it is the Mac startup sound and you can use the VST to dick about with it which is great fun. Here's a video of someone creating it:

I hate to bring up the DX7 because...well, I hate it, but...
    Log Drum
    Harmonica
    THAT Electric Piano
    THAT Electric bass

Probably the most iconic synth patches ever.

Also that Korg M1 house piano sound whatever patch that was (never had one)

Another big D50 sound is Soundtrack.

on an mpc, i would want drums. 808, 909, 626 maybe. I would want bass sounds, so for me that would be Korg MS-20, Roland SH-101. some Moog basses, more 808. I'd want any staple types of samples for the genre I was mainly going to make. So for House music, as an example; i'd want some square wave basses, the famous Korg m1 organ patch. Every genre has some sounds like that which are used a lot, so i would want some samples of those.

I wouldn't want anything like melodic loops, i would want notes that can be reused a bunch. The melodic parts, you are going to get by sampling old records or whatever, so you don't need a million of them to sit and take up space. sample or import what you are going to use as you need it. You know the kinds of loops you can program in a pattern sequencer already. Those are what I would focus on with an mpc; like it is a drum machine with a sampler added. Not like it is a DAW. Think of how you can get the most stuff on it's limited internal memory, because that is the general workflow. hits, not loops.

Thanks Will, , ive been going through it and found some, but its a lot to go through so it will take a while. Its a bit of the reason why i thought of asking our community here, to get inspired and maybe pick up some goodies :) Yes, some sounds are evolving and there is a limit to what i can recreate onboard since i sample the presets as dry as possible and add movement and fx afterwards but mostly has worked extremely well. Cheers

No!! dont feel that way its exactly what i looking for, specific presets or just some favorites or just stuff you find interesting so its perfect,

i have the actual Korg M1 in hardware and as Vst. I took the classic Piano and Brass preset i dont remember exactly the preset name and the famous organ for sure, perfect to have at the tip of my fingers without any computer.

The Log drum hmm i dont remember and the Harmonica i seemed to have missed will check again. Thing is I went through the D50 the other day but i got a bit overwhelmed after hours of listening to just sounds, had to take a rest but ill revisit it and check Soundtrack, thanks!

Thanks Clone! Yes, i already had with some of those classic drummachines, the 626 though i have not listened to, good tip.

I agree on the loops totally. I used to sample before, nowadays i just sample single notes of songs with some interesting character or texture since i like to make it all myself i almost never use loops of any sort :)

thanks everyone, if you remember something, keep them coming . Cheers

Can't forget the M1 Organ Bass! :guru: Literally the sound of deep house.

You know, the Robin S - Show Me Love sound:

Edit: saw that OP already had sampled it.

yes, definitely, i think ill use Arturia Collection for that, at least a couple of sounds from them each is a must i think

Haha, for sure! can def be used to make a point, i think ill have even such sounds not to use randomly but i make also funk and electro so such things introduce a wink and can be impactful still :)

Nice list, ill be going through it back and forth.

Hehe, yes and sounds great really. very useful :)
Whats cool not all but many of this classics are only one layer since they dont change that much with velocity, or you can just fix that initial damping locally so the programs are often very light and small

I know its a very personal question but im doing this just to have some back and forth and not sit here and get lost in random sounds. i see more and more that there are often 10 defining sounds or so per instrument and the rest are just variations of fx and some modulation
