Soothe 2 still in use?

    Top producers and mixing engineers use it every day. That should tell you what you need to know. It's just another tool for a specific type of problem.

    that def doesn't tell you what they seek to know though. top producers also use the native daw compressors. that doesn't explain the reason why he might wanna try out an 1176 plugin that top producers also use. top producers use everything.

    That's the same procedure for every EQ, be it static, dynamic or spectral.

    Well, Soothe doesn't compress, Smooth operator compress the sound so if you go super hard you notice the compression. For my uses ,when something is annoying on the High end i just slap soothe and 99% of the times the job is done. Sometimes i put the taming super wide and use it as a tonal balance but since i use smooth operator for that task, i find soothe more usefull for the high end, the workflow is super fast. Teote on the other hand for when i have the sound already where i like but needs a bit extra, but to be honest i havent been using it lately since i cannot hear too much difference unless i go hard with it.

    Soothe should cost if not $45, way over priced if you ask me., if its that good they will sell 100x more then what they made to date combined.

    The only reason any plugins are sold for more then $100 is because of heavy marketing and compromising of the competition's anti piracy code., companies like Vertigo, Oaksound, softube, Acustica, Avid and a few more are on greed "o" crack charging crazy prices, if their plugs take less cpu, have great gui and sounds absolutely dead on or simply great then maybe $100 tops..the market is basically crashing atm, the "tracing" technology just arrived and we are unto AI plugins that are getting super smart even as part of Vintage relic plugins, Softube's new versions of Tube Tech with advance features is one idea, and if the "tracing" technology is the new way having USER enable GUI or logo would be great, like allowing us to make our own Marshall Amp logo on NAM etc.

    I just dont buy the soothe hype but I can see it and dilatable Marshall amp sims and tube Pres all been more desirable then other plugs that are booth AI and based on the "tracing" technology.

    Any info on Soothe ruining the sound?

    "Once you learn what Soothe sounds like on sibilants you can't unhear it. It almost ruined the "Sandman" tv show for me. Soothe is cranked to the max, just watch a trailer and hear what the actors sound like. Don't need confirmation they used Soothe. I hear this in a lot of recent shows." (c)

    Yes, it does. The perception for the need of randomly removing "resonances" of an area in the frequency spectrum can only occur because of a bad room. So what you basically are doing is adjusting the tonal balance of the song to your listening environment. But it definetely does not "fix" anything. The only thing those tools do is making the sound more artificial. :yes:

    This is true, and one (artist) should learn to distinguish goals which he is trying to achieve using modern tech.

    When we compare directly old records (mostly ripped from vinyl) and modern ones, we see one particular feature: modern records are tranparent.

    While old records may sound brilliant and tonaly exceptional (not mentioning currently degraded performers art) they are messy, and very dense; if we apply a concept of "the wall of sound", we wouldn't easily see every brick in that wall. The whole picture amazes, but you cannot see what's in there, no details, no "zooming".

    And that also means not being able to hear what artist intended to say.

    Because of technological inferiority, that gap between desired and possible was very big... And today that is cannot be more far from truth!

    Artificial sound is what composers of the past could only dream of, f.e. listen what Frank Zappa says here:


    Being a rock musician and also a HUGE composer (which works were conducted by Pierre Boulez), he's saying that he's GLAD that he finally couldn't take hold of a bunch of people every time he needs to hear the big picture. Just think about it - one can easily achieve his vision with only willingness and motivation... Anything else not necessary

    If something sounds bad, it's either intended by the artist or not. If intended, it's either a part of big picture or not. That's what differs serious artists from laymen.

    If you get tired or don't like of using it as a resonance tamer you can always start to use it as a sidechain space carver. I even ditched Duck for Soothe in some projects for kick/snare/bass ducking and the more I use it that way the more I like it. You can even do sound desing with the Delta signal. It's a nice tool. I never stopped using it since I got it.

    Its a great design. As everyone else says, using the delta tricks, and sidechaining is a really huge plus.

    I don't like that VST at all; it seems overrated to me. The times I've tried it, it eats up the harmonics, leaving a non-natural sound. I agree with what Tirgre said; I can achieve the same thing, for example, with FabFilter ProQ3. However, I'm not an expert in Sothe2; I only tried it for a day or two, and I didn't like its results

    Soothe2 is still at the top of the game in regard to this style of plugin IMHO. I use it on every mix, as its extremely versatile and speeds up my workflow. 100% worth picking it up on the sale, this will be the best deal you'll get on it until next Black Friday. It's definitely in my top 5 desert island plugins. :)

    It's very useful as a side-chain for clashing frequencies and masking. But for anything else...meh.

    In my opinion you can easily ruin a sound with Soothe, yes. To me it is one of those plugins with a very thin line between "too subtle to notice" and "too obvious, too artificial, too thin". I think Soothe is often misunderstood as a beginner-friendly plugin, because yes, you can absolutely destroy tracks or mixes in seconds.

    There are many plugins I use way more often than Soothe and when I use it, I usually prefer it to act more on the subtle side of things. It is very versatile though, if you know what you want to archive. One of the cases I sometimes like to use it is to de-mudding bass frequencies in, well, muddy scenarios. Gives me some good starting points to eq the sound further afterwards if needed. Nothing I couldn't live without, but very nice to have.

    I don't even use it for it's sidechaining abilities or some other usecases users of Soothe mentioned in this thread only. To me this contains a reference to it's versatility.
