Well, from this article I understand OpenAI has a goal to create AGI(superintelligence).
GPT4 is just the beginning of the journey; and a warning sign: our lives will change drastically in a few years.
So the question is do you have a plan?

Although I agree a few jobs are already in danger in the mid-term and they should had that important meeting for that and others reasons.

 

We will see! (Better safe than sorry.)
My main job is in the IT field, and yet I'm worried about my job. I would say: I know that without a knowledge of AI, I will be unemployed.
My plan is AI learning.

My job(s) rely mostly on phisical work. So no, i'm not scared of ai taking over my job. Subwoofer-lifting robots with laser beams attached to their heads, now that's scary.

 

It's a good idea, but AI learns everything and everywhere much faster...

Just watch 1st matrix movie again. It's a documentary about the post-human world after the birth of AGI.

 

i teach kids, from 8 up to 16-18 y.o.
the laughs we have when we do lesson and the human touch is simply unreplaceable, so i'm not scared.

Advanced General Intelligence take my job? Er...maybe if I live a thousand or so years. The results achieved by the current crop of "AI" software are, I admit, incredibly impressive - almost frighteningly so. But they aren't even remotely close to actual human intelligence much less AGI. In fact, many experts in the field hold the view that there is no way in which current techniques could ever deliver AGI. Understanding is, I think, essential to AGI but is entirely absent from all current or foreseeable systems. This is because it is an incredibly difficult problem for computers and may not be possible at all. Certainly, in my humble opinion, the current crop of of AI programmer don't seem to have the faintest idea of how to even go about trying to solve it.

 

Experts in AI do not expect an AGI before the next 25 to 40 years have passed.
So my shelf life is over anyway.

But more seriously: Scientists have even become somewhat more skeptical about the emergence of AGI over the past few decades.
Even the General Intelligence of a housefly exceeds that of all computers combined today by many orders of magnitude.
So we are far away from AGI. Experts expect them before the end of the century.

An AGI is far more than a chat bot. The drivel of OpenAI about AGI is simply PR, nothing substancial.
But I would still like to experience it, even if it is unlikely. The first truly intelligent creature on earth ...

BTW less seriously: Creating an AGI is something for mathematicians and less for IT staff.
So if you're not a specialized mathematician, maybe you should become a handyman instead: AGI will not wallpaper apartments in the long run, I guess. They just don't like to. They want to enslave mankind.

I'll be dead by then.
So I'll be leaving it to somebody else to do the heavy lifting.

 

Music is not (all) about 'enslaving and consumption'; many of us can not live without music.
With AGI (or some high level of AI) we would have more time for our passion.

All everyone is ranting about is a mid level headphone manufacturer? All I keep hearing is AI, AI, AI. AIAIAI makes ok cans, but to be afraid of them? I could be wrong though! One never knows, does one?

 

We should be afraid of the people with privileged access to it and of its potential for military usage.
